Understanding Why We Are at War........TORO

My son is 14 years old. He thinks he knows everything. In a few years he will be old enough to die for his country. My wish is that he never in his lifetime will have to shed blood in defending this great country of ours.

Unfortunately if terrorism is not defeated, it is one wish that will probably go unfullfilled.

Many people think that by doing nothing, terrorism will just fade away. That thinking is wrong. Terrorism, if left alone will only grow and spread. Terrorism in the future will only be more atrocious. America will weaken. Our enemies will try to take advantage.

America will weaken?

just look at what happened with the twin towers. the pentagon. It has effected our economy. didnt the stocks plunge? what would have happened if the terrorist would have also attacked wallstreet at the same time. Our financial structure would have taken a major hit.

What would have happened if they would have taken out congress? What if the terrorist would have completely destroyed the pentagon.

We are a mighty nation, but a nation whose infrastruture, its way of life is so tightly woven together. What happens to one part of our society happens to another part of it. Weaken one and it weakens another.

What happens when our enemies percieve us as weakened?

They will try to get stronger. Once they think they are strong enough they will attack. Someday. In the future.

That is where my 14 year old son comes in. Years from now. Somewhere carrying a rifle, defending this country. Just like many brave Americans before him.
