"In a situation like this, of course you identify with everyone who's suffering. [But we must also think about] the terrorists who are creating such horrible future lives for themselves because of the negativity of this karma. It's all of our jobs to keep our minds as expansive as possible. If you can see [the terrorists] as a relative who's dangerously sick and we have to give them medicine, and the medicine is love and compassion. There's nothing better." --Richard Gere, in an interview with ABCNEWS Radio, October 10

I am telling ya, I just dont know what to say, would this guy even defend his own family? So someone breaks into your house and threatens you what do you do richard, run to the medicine cabinet for a bottle of Tylenol Love and Peace. I guess instead of police officers carrying guns they ought to carry Richard Gere's Compassion Elixer

How about you taking two helpings of my patented Toro's Common Sense Suppository or as other people know it by "My Right Foot".

El Toro

Date: 11/12/2001 4:36:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 27360    sorry folks that last paragraph is meant for Richard Gere and not usm members....lol....Toro
Date: 11/12/2001 5:15:00 AM  From Authorid: 27046    LOL....Man why didn't I read this hours ago when I was here....El Toro this actually quite comical, even though you are serious....good way of putting hey you are an idiot without saying it that way...
Date: 11/12/2001 5:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 30229    ROFLMAO @ El Toro!!!! I am, AGAIN, appalled at Gere!!!! Does he not realize that he is going to watch his popularity go down the tubes?? And as for YOU, El Toro, I am laughing my butt off at how you worded your last sentence!!!! Sooooo funny!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Date: 11/12/2001 5:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 32763    but ya know, makes one kind of envious how at peace with life he is. i wish we all could be like that and then we wouldn't even have to worry about terrorist!! he has the right idea about most things, but when he speaks out ALONE then nothing will change. think about it.
Date: 11/12/2001 5:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 10657    while, I am laughing at the post, I am also pondering. Good post nonetheless.
Date: 11/12/2001 6:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 16950    I don't think that's what he meant, El Toro, but I can see why you may think that. I have mixed feelings about all of this myself. And for the most part I don't think war (violence) helps any situation. I mean if someone broke into my house I would defend my family & myself, of course, but I am not big on revenge... I dunno. It is so hard to explain! Especially with only 1 hour of sleep last night. LOL So I am off to bed to have sweet dreams. Take care everyone & Bless you all! Oh & I DO think Richard Gere would protect his family if in that situation. Love & hugs,
Date: 11/12/2001 6:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 16950    LOL I have to admit the way you worded this is hilarious! LOL Luv,
Date: 11/12/2001 6:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 30229    Kitty, you said if someone broke into your home, you would defend your family and yourself? Well, I think that is the same premise that USA has about the terrorist on September 11... dont you? Our government could be thinking that same thing... we are DEFENDING ourselves against the war that was waged on us on that date... The comment today about Richard Gere, coupled with his other ones makes me think he is NOT in peace.... but that is MY opinions, and I dont want to step on any toes here but it is the way I feel... Thanks
Date: 11/12/2001 7:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 16950    My problem is that I can see BOTH sides of this! Waaaa! LOL It's no easy being me! I always do that! Sometimes I wish I weren't so darned open-minded or whatever it is that makes me this way! LOL Take care everyone & Bless you all! Love & hugs,
Date: 11/12/2001 7:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 30229    Frisky Kitty..I also see both sides, and I had a hard time weighing the facts to come to the conclusions that I have... I just feel like we are doing what we have to do... as sad as that may be ... huggggs to ya!!!
Date: 11/12/2001 8:04:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 27360    Thanx for the comments, as for richard gere he just makes writing a post such as this just to easy...lol...Toro
Date: 11/12/2001 12:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 15228    You almost have to admire the guy, he is taking a big risk with his career by stating what he believes and though I don't agree, he seems so mild mannered and sincere (on the level of a four year old), that even when he was being booed at that concert in New York he didn't seem offended. Unlike some people, at the very least he isn't bashing America. No, I'm not a fan of his and your post made me laugh...Kelly
Date: 11/12/2001 8:44:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 27360    Kelly I see it more as being out of touch....Toro
Date: 11/13/2001 5:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    You might be right about him being out of touch, but isn't he a Buddhist? I don't know much about the religion, but I think they are all about peace and tolerance to an extreme....Kelly
Date: 11/13/2001 5:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 32763    so let me ask you a question-whats so wrong with being all about peace and tolerance to an extreme?????? things sure aren't working very good now!!!!!!! are they???? why is it that everyone wants to put someone down that has the right idea??? you think it but they say it!!! i think that is cowardly. you say you wish the world would change, they take steps to change it.
Date: 11/13/2001 6:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    Wow, I came pretty close to defending the guy, so don't bite my head off!!! I think if you keep turning the other cheak often enough, a slap is going to turn to a punch and eventually your going to be knocked unconsious. Love and Peace are wonderful, but how realistic is it to think that everyone is going to feel as you do? There comes a point where you have to defend yourself or your going to keep being knocked down. Have you never dealt with a real life bully? I have and the only way to stop a bully is to stand up to him/her. Sending out vibes of peace and love is all well and good, but it won't stop you from getting hurt....Kelly
