A step back in time

I stepped back in time yesterday,
I saw a friend I had not seen for some time.
Love once again filled my heart,
All I once knew was once again mine.

I could find a smile just be looking at him,
I could hear laughter coming from deep within.
I reached and held his hand.
Oh, my love, where has he been.

Loneliness I did not know,
Sadness did not fill my heart.
I could see a tomorrow for us.
Him and I would never part.

As he held me in his arms,
I felt a love that once use to be.
I never wanted to let go,
The truth I did not want to see.

But as we walked back into today,
I began to remember with time,
Why I left so long ago,
And knew that the dream would never again be mine.

But it was nice for the moment,
To be able to forget the pain.
Whatever was once between us,
Would never again be the same.

I stepped back in time yesterday,
A time when I once loved a precious friend.
A time my heart was filled with happiness,
And a love that knew no end.
