RACISM We must stop it now!

I have many friends of different colors (I am white). They tell me of the racist actions and words that are committed against them daily. I cannot believe that in this day and age such a word like racism is even in our vocabulary. Once the skin is removed, you would have one heck of a time trying to tell what color that person once was. It's just a covering, like the cover of a book. We must start today by learning about and embracing our differences. When you hear a racist comment, rebuke it. We must start educating our more ignorant constituants if were ever going to obliterate racism from our planet rever. We should consider ourselves first and formost as earthlings and treat everything on this planet with the respect it deserves.

Date: 11/3/2001 7:22:00 AM  From Authorid: 42792    Your words could not hold ,ore truth but unfortunately, we do not live in a perfect world. There will always be ignorance and strife. It is a part of balance. My children are bi-racial...American-Mexicans...I so wish that things were different but they are not. I teach my children to respect themselves regardless of the opinions of others. I explain to them why they should pray for people like that and that they obiously are lacking self-esteem and most likely were taught to be ignorant from their parents...NKA

Date: 11/3/2001 7:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 10915    I agree with you author and it starts with each and every individual. Here included! We can't just say I don't do it but or I know but. To say that only serves racism to even higher heights.
Date: 11/3/2001 7:33:00 AM  From Authorid: 42792    The best means of teaching are through actions not words. Taking a verbal stance against racism is somewhat hypocritical, more so in the mind of a racist, only feeding their fire of hate. Think about it....NKA
Date: 11/3/2001 7:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 29199    I completely agree with you. It's so hard to convince people that it's wrong, it gets increadibly frustrating sometimes. I know a lot of racist people and I don't know how to deal with them sometimes, so it let things go by. I just avoid it, although I know it's wrong. Sometimes it feels like there's really nothing at all I can do and that what I say to them won't matter anyway. Our society is unconciously breeding racism by collage scholarships for a specific color, it makes it more difficult to forget about with people shoving it in everyone's face every single day. Hum...I guess that's all I've got to say....
Date: 11/3/2001 8:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 42552    Very well said! I'm half white and half hispanic, and I have racist words towards me once in while. Though sometimes I may not show that their words hurt. Deep down, they really do. Thank you for sharing these strong words. God Bless, Love; Maria aka: -Lady Mexico-

Date: 11/3/2001 5:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 43027    But no matter who you are white, black, other amercian, other your always going to be critcized by someone from somewhere in school people get critcized all the time..
people are just people and nothing can change that ..
Date: 11/3/2001 5:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 45303    I don't know if people will ever change their
views, especially if they're brought up to believe
that one race is superior over another.

I am Japanese American and I have lived in the U.S.
Mainland for just about a year, having moved from
Hawaii. In just a year, I have experienced more
racism here than I have in my entire life in Hawaii.

I have been refused service at take-outs and
restaurants, been assaulted on a bus, been harrassed
in line at another fast-food restaurant, and have
been "watched" very carefully while shopping. There
was an incident where I was killing some time and
decided to check out an antiques store. It was
last winter and I had my heavy coat with me, but
because the store was warm I had to take the coat
off, but there being no place to hang the coat, I
just carried it with me. Well, the woman in the
store followed me around everywhere and whenever
I touched something, she would run over and check
out the item to make sure it was "still there".
I was so insulted, I shook out my coat to show her
that I had nothing under there, and then promptly
left.

I think people can yell until they're blue in the
face but it's not going to change a person's point
of view, if they refuse to listen.
