Hmm, never really thought of that. But what about having a family that smokes a lot? Would that effect the way you're trying to quit? I don't smoke or anything(and I never will) but a lot of people in my family smokes and I was wondering. |

A lot of times I wonder about that, my dad said he smoked before, long time ago, I think when he was in the navy. But never picked up the habbit? No addiction? He doesn't smoke now though. Both my grandfathers smoked pipes and one smoked cigarettes too, one is alive and never went through any withdrawal and doesn't smoke. The other one has been dead since my mom was in high school from lung cancer. On the other hand my uncle (on my mom's side of the family) has been smoking since he was 12, and he is now a lung hacking chain smoker. And your right about the brain washing part, parents, teachers, anti- smoking commercials have brain washed children so much my brothers and sister think smoking is pure evil or something. I'm allergic to cigarette smoke, but I don't think my parents would mind if I took up smoking or not. And I have never in my life had the urge to start smoking. I think a lot of it is parents attitudes towards smoking. I think that is why kids smoke, they see their friends as different from their parents at from ages 13-19 so, like in some form of rebellion they take it up. |

It is mental addicditon. But sometimes your body is in more control than your mind or your concinse thoughts over your unconseinse thoughts . does that make ANY sense??????? Maybe just to me. *BLUECOWS* |

Of course its chemically addictive. Its been scientifically proven. Nicotine is an addictive drug like heroin or cocaine. Do you think those people are just imagining their addiction too? |

Of course the ingrediant nicotine is somewhat addictive, what also is addictive is what they are doing when they are smoking. Like if they always smoke after they eat then if will be even harder to quit. |

Well, I think it is mentally addictive. I started smoking at 12 to look cool like it was stated in the post. But it took about 6 months to a year to learn to start smoking. When I was 13 my mom caught me and I got in trouble. I got caught at least 20 times, and finally when I was 14 she gave up and let me smoke since I was going to do it anyway. I could get cigerettes anytime I wanted to and at age 15 I was smoking a pack a day. Now I am 16 and I quit. I just decided hey this is it, I quit, ya know, it's bad for my health and makes my teeth yellow and my skin look bad. I have had no withdraws, and I am actually in a better mood than what I was when I smoked. And I feel better also. And it only took me a day to give it up. So, it is definatly mental addiction. ~Gemini Skies~ |
