An elderly man's blood pressure, Slowly begins to drop, From frequently checking it, I see that it's just not going to stop, I run to the nurses' station, To give his doctor a call, From his orders, We move him to ICU, Quickly down the hall, An elderly lady that just had surgery, Hip dressing is checked, Bright red blood is seeping through, That is noticeably fresh, I reinforce her dressing, Hoping it will hold, Checking her feet for circulation, Hoping her toes aren't cold, A young lady across the hall, Starts to moan out in pain, I administer a pain injection, In her face I can see the strain, An elderly man yells out, Being confused and completely afraid, His surroundings are unfamiliar, As he pulls the covers over his head, I sit by his bed and talk to him, Trying to soothe him of his fear, I happily peek out the window, As light is drawing near, I quietly walk out his room, As he dozes off to sleep, Satisfied that he's finally relaxed, Knowing his fears were deep, Another shift of nightwatch, Has been successfully completed, God has answered this nurses' prayer, The night has been defeated.
