Poor sissy! I'm so sorry about this bad news! Lots of people are diagnosed with this every year, and my doctor thinks I might be another patient with it. Don't worry you're NOT alone! |

Probably best to see a doctor... could mean surgery of some sort to attempt to correct that... THOUGH I don't know... I am no doctor, well maybe a doctor of computers eventually, but anyway. If it hurts that much, I'd definately get the opinion of a doctor about options available. |

I have scoliosis of the spine. (sp?) which is a curve in the spine. It is also painful and hurts when it rains. My grandmother suffers from arthritis that covers her body. And my mother also has it in her hands. Its hereditary so I'm sure that I will end up with it too. I have noticed that when I drive for an hour,It is hard for me to walk and that my knees are in alot of pain. Maybe you should make yourself an appointment to get checked for arthritis. I hope that everything turns out okay for you. |

"Lordhosis" at the sunken in bottom part, "Kaiphosis" (not sure of spelling of each ofthese) at the top. There are excercises you can do, AND SHOULD start now, to strengthen the muscles around your spine. They will have to do the extra work your bones cannot do, especially as you get older. Arthritis of the spine cannot be diagnosed without bloodwork to detect inflamamtion. (A sedimentation rate test). And X-rays can detect if any cartilege damage or bone abnormalities have started. Now all this sounds alarming? It is not! Those muscles will do the work and prevent serious damage, but you have to commit to looking after that. Swimming is good, very good. If you're in a lot of pain, you can even start with lifting 2 lb weights straight up to the ceiling, while laying on your back! Oh, and stand chest out, and bum tucked in! Love, |

Hello Meagan. My niece had something like what you've just described. I must agree with Amaranth. Swimming is great. When my niece came to live with us, she had a badly curved spin. First thing that we did was enroll her in a swimming program at a local school. She was 12 years old at the time. She stayed on the team for 1.5 years. This completely corrected the problem. She is 21 now and still doing well. This swimming program was kinda tough on everyone. She had practice 3 days/week and meets on Saturday. Kept us going, but it was worth it. Good Luck to You. Write on... |

Whoa! You're pregnant? Then you MUST swim. The water will lift that baby/tummy, andtakethe weight off your spine! I promise! I'm 5 ft 2, 115 lbs, and I had a 10 lb baby! Swimming, even just hanging around in the pool, (hot tubs etc.) was the ONLY thing that alleviated back pain for me! Love, |

Theres also an elastic belt that you can wear during pregnancy to aleviate back pain. I had back problems before pregnancy too but being pregnant made the pain worse. |
