The American Government puts its faith in "God". Why not respect that? What is written on American money? "IN GOD WE TRUST" ...... "God Bless America" is not only a quote it is a song. That doesn't just talk about "God". It's about our country. What else is there to say that would fit America better? Just because some people don't believe in "God" or have different believes all together doesn't mean they shouldn't or can't say "God Bless America". That term doesn't belong to relgion. It's an American way. It's tradition. It was because of religion that brought America where it is. A land of the free. In all ways. We all as a unit can come together and say "God Bless America" because of tradition and beliefs. It's just like Christmas. How many people say "Merry Christmas" to each other that don't believe in "God" or have different beliefs? A lot! Why? Because of tradition. Because of respect. It's part of our nation coming together and uniting as one. Race, religion, and money don't stand in the way. So, "God Bless America" and "Merry Christmas to all!"  |

I don't say it  ...But I think the whole 'God bless America' thing is just such and old saying, and such a unique saying that has been put into American heads for years; put on money and everything, that it's lost the real meaning of the words...And is now more of a logo, or a heading...  |

i have to agree with Silver Star....it is something in the heart of all Americans....it is our spirit....and when our spirit is damaged we tend to group together...it is how America is and how Americans are....we are a united front and we believe in our country.....and that just happens to be one way for us to show it...what you believe does not mean a thing.....what matters is how you feel....and in the last two weeks we Americans have gone from shock to anger back to shock......and everything mixed in between....and i love the end of Silver Star's reply.......as she so tactfully put it..... You don't have to go to church to believe in god. I don't go and I believe in him, I mean you can't judge people by what they are....let me ask you do you know everything about everyone in usm?????? "judge not Until you Judge yourself".....If you are religious and do go to church more power to you, but you shouldn't say that about others....people may not have used his name in the past but this is a time when people need him and are thankful that he's there for them and others, no matter what....I'm sorry if I ofended you in any way, I didn't mean to. I think Silver Star summed it up rather well. Personally, I don't go around saying "God Bless America". When I stand to pledge allegience to the flag and it gets to the part "One Nation under God", I don't say that part. I don't object to others saying it though. I DO say Merry Christmas because it is just a nice thing to say at that time when everyone is saying it to me. When anyone says God Bless America or God Bless with regards to anything, I just smile and take it all in stride. Kinda like "Have a nice day, Y'all".  |

This country was founded on the belief of God. God "HAS" blessed America for many, MANY years. Just look at the different religions and ethnic groups that have dwelled here in peace all of this time. But our Godly protection is hanging in the balance right now. There is Sooo much sin occurring within America. We "Allowed" Gov. to take prayer out of the schools, and then child massacures began. We allowed our entertainment to de-sensitize our youth, and now all of Americas school nurses offices have the atmospheres of child pharmacies. We began to accept gay marraiges and the biggest attack EVER on America occured. These are only a few of "My" observations. Like it or not, it's happened...Many will call on the name of the Lord God in the end times, but their cries on his name will go unanswered because of their refusal of God...The cries "OH GOD! GOD HELP US! GOD Bless US! God will turn a deaf ear to many who repent not...(Just My Opinion)  |

I think that all folks do know that God exists on some level. Some acknowledge Him freely but others can't or don't want to admit He exists. For some folks to admit it would mean to stop living a life that is pleasing to them. Some folks just need concrete proof (remeber Thomas needed this and he KNEW Jesus). Anyway, just my opinion.  |

The reason why people say this NOW is the reason why they say anything. When faced with REALITY, the go with what is REAL. God alone will be the JUDGE of the intentions behind anyone's words, i.e., the truth or falseness of them. I have seen a "Goddess Bless" bumper sticker. Firstborn, however much in jest you are being to MoonPriestess, I don't think you really believe that HE is a she. And for someone to capitalize on "falseness" is part of the problem in America today. JMHO. God Bless.  |

I have noticed it too. I dont say it because I dont believe in God and I wouldnt want to pretend I do, but I know a lot of Athiests and non church goers who now have god bless america on their cars and pins, etc. I guess it must make them feel better. I dont know.  |

I think FB was just trying to be accepting of others, I don't think in any way shape or form that she believes in the Goddess, but MANY do. Therefore it is NOT 'capitalizing on falseness'. The Goddess is very real to me and very real to many others. (and I would love to find one of those bumper stickers!! LOL.... It's not the athiests who are suddenly attending church, it's all of your devout christian friends. Furthermore, I think there's more athiests in the foxholes than you think their are, in fact, I'd wager the conversion rate of christians to athiests when people see the horror of war is higher than athiests suddenly going, "Wow, all this wonderfulness going on around me must be part of some grand plan made up by a kind and forgiving God!!!" As to athiests in the fox holes, being in the defence force and being in the front line, i have never seen any person make a pray to god before going to battle, thats hollywood, not real life. most times you just put yer head down and go for it, not stop and pray to something that may or may not exist.  |

And power one, your absolutely right. A lot of so called Christians never go to church unless something like this comes up. Sadly to say, at my church, we have "members" who ONLY come when we have a special meal or on holidays. A lot of people let Religion get in the way. Jesus Christ never said a thing about baptists or pentecostals or anything like that. All that and other things were added by greedy people later on. I don't like religion and what its done to people but I do love Jesus Christ and the Bible. I'm liking some of the stuff Power One is writing better than some of what the "followers" are saying. People, think about what you say before you say it cause your making Bible believing Christians like myself look like idiots. There is absolutly nothing hypocritacal in the Bible but there is a lot of hypocritacal Christians out there to make Christianity look like a joke. Power One, That was very good, and I agree. That OLD "atheists in foxholes" thingy is just a silly saying dreamed up by some religious zealot and which all others glom onto and use as one of their rallying cries. Truth is that while there might be a FEW who MIGHT "suddenly" turn to "god", those people were only fence-sitters to begin with, and are exactly like those who ONLY run to church, or pray, or anything else like that WHEN THERE IS A HUGE PROBLEM or when there is a tragedy. When the problem is solved, or the crisis is over, huge masses of them go back to business as usual. Yep, fence-sitters. They'll grab onto ANYTHING when they need SOMETHING to lean on, or something/someone to make 'em feel better. I'M not a fence sitter. No matter what happens. Even looking down the barrel of a loaded 45, or a building in flames, NOTHING would make me believe in a "god". I do not NEED it. I am confident and strong in MY OWN mind, in MY own strengths. |

Well sometimes some poeple just say it when something really terrible happens that can threaten there life...For example not trying to be mean but lets say a man is all of a sudden dying he is scared and shocked and knows he going to die and you know they start praying to god and start saying god help or whatever I know I sound silly but it really happens...but mostly I agree with silver star but i bet some people did what I said too...love ~*~BlueButterfly~*~  |
