Am I meant to be a pessimist?

  Author:  15904  Category:(Debate) Created:(9/23/2001 8:05:00 PM)

This is how the story goes, everytime I try to anticipate a good result of something, it always turns out to be the opposite. For instance, the night before the test, I kept saying "I'm gonna get an A this time, I studied." Then at the test, everything seemed right and I was bragging about how the test was easy and stuff. Then when I received my mark...huh? how COULD this be? I got like a C plus. That's ONE example of the peices of my life. I WANT to be optimistic, but everytime I do, it turns out worse than I thought. But, on the other hand, If I keep being a pessimist and saying "I'm gonna fail" then surprisingly, even if I seldom studied, it's better than I thought.

Date: 9/23/2001 8:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 38849    You know what I do to best prep. for tests... I recopy my notes each night, and do the homework over and over and over again. AND always, I skip the first question on the test... seems like that is where all my professors put their hardest question.
Date: 9/23/2001 8:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    well ok, rule number one if you tell your self your gonna fail your going to expect it and therefore you will do better than you thought. I Don't test well never have and probably never will, I get the 'walk into class knowing it all, then give me the test and I go blank' syndrome. LOL ok, that's only for some classes.....but I know how you feel all that can be asked of us is that we do our best.
Date: 9/23/2001 8:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 27735    I've always said that no one is ever more surprised that a pessimist when things work out. I've always been that way. My glass is half empty, but then I discover that it is half full and I'm always so surprised to see that.
Date: 9/23/2001 8:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 42602    That's because you try to be too optimistic. Always have a positive outlook but don't set yourself up for a great fall. If you expect too much you will be let down more often. Keep the faith *hugs* kandbmom
Date: 9/23/2001 8:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 7089    reverse psychology is a wonderful thing imo...you may be seen as laying on the pessimism, but in the end, if the result is good, all the pessimism kinda makes it all look like a cakewalk. if it's not good, well, you were prepped for it. pessimism is only realism w/o its morning coffee after all. cheers, -tugger
Date: 9/24/2001 12:29:00 AM  From Authorid: 38119    It sounds like your too OPTIMISTIC. You get too overconfident.
Date: 9/24/2001 6:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 27845    No, stay optimistic!!! There are already enough pessimist's in the world > I know it's hard sometimes espesially when something you worked hard for doesn't turn out, but isn't better to tell yourself your going to improve then to tell yourself your a failer? If you keep working hard and studying then you will get the results you want!! Always look on the bright side of life!! -*Veronica*
Date: 9/24/2001 12:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 34487    Try not to look at it so cut and dry. Finding the grey area in life or the middle of the road can sometimes be helpful. In my past, some people labled me a pessimist. I always say that I am not a pessimist but a realist. Before your next test focus on digesting what your reading or learning and not on the outcome (grade). You may be psyching yourself up with expectations and making yourself more nervous in the end. Just tell yourself..."I've studied or tried and now what happens, happens." That usually works the best for me in given situations. Don't stress yourself out too much in life, you sound like an intelligent and dilligent person.
Date: 9/24/2001 12:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 36459    If you shoot for the stars, you may only hit the moon. Still, that't lots higher than most of us go. Keep at it. Your "positiveness" WILL pay off. "The race is not always to the swift, but to those that keep on running."
Date: 12/6/2003 7:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 57768    That happens to me to... so just everytime i get a test i say imma fail it just in case! Thanks for posting!
