CD review: System of a Down: Toxicity

NOOOOO!!!! that was my 1st reaction to SOADs new album, 'Toxicity'. at first, i had heard only 1 or 2 songs on it, and i was appalled at the way the band had gone from extremely heavy songs to a more 'poppy' sound. even 'Chop Suey!', an excellent song, wasnt as good as many of the tunes on SOADs 1st cd. but, after i accepted the fact that their sound was too good to last, i liked what 'Toxicity' really is: a nu-metal album, without much innovation. but, be4 u send me any messages saying "Chop Suey rules! U have no taste in music!" let me say i like this cd. a lot. the best songs on it are 'Science', 'Prison Song' (in which he makes fun of fred durst, sumthin i cant help but love), 'Chop Suey!', and 'Toxicity'. but, if u want to see what REAL metal is, listen to SOADs 1st album (or MuDvAyNe's 'L.D.50'>. thosell get everyone of u headbangin, and are perfect mosh cds. now, i only hope that SOADs next cd will go back to heavy music. -madhatter87

Date: 9/10/2001 3:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 24732    Of course I love Systerm of a Down and the only song I like on Toxicity is Chop Suey. I do like the old cd better. But what this is, is probably a case of the dreaded "sophomore album" many new bands face this problem. They're always great the 1st time around, then their listeners expect a better cd than the 1st. Maybe it's the fame or the pressure of trying to make a better cd than the 1st, but it happens to many bands.

Date: 9/30/2001 9:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 43495    I love SOAD. Sugar was the most godly 3 minutes of music I've ever heard. And Spiders, I really love that song. Chop Suey is good and all but yes, this cd is different than their first. Nice to see other SOAD fans here. ::Cellophane Girl
