Horse Racing

What's your view? In many cases when a horse breaks it leg in a race, then ultimatly it is killed.

In washington state there is a horse race called "Suicide race" or something of that sort.. and it is practiced mostly by the native americans that live there...but everyone can participate. Now, the race only lasts but a few seconds...but in those few seconds the horses have to endure going to a very steep slope many of which fall on the way down and get badly hurt or even die, and then across a deep river (..and on tv it shows one experience where the horse was literally drowning since the rider didnt want to let go of the horse out of fear of being disqualified.) Many feel that it is very inhuman and wish to close the "suicide race" down, yet the Natives and many others think that its thier history and it's thier tradition and it should be left alone. I feel that horse racing is VERY cruel... especially races like the one I just told you about.

This is the Debate: What do you think about the "suicide race" in washington state, or just about horse racing in general? Is it okay to let man mistreat animals the way they do for sport or recreation?

Date: 9/10/2001 3:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 42741    Horse racing in principle is not wrong. The horse's actually like to race, and horses are put down for their own sake. In the past this was not done and many horses injured themselves to try and race after havin broken a leg. The horses were in such a bad state that they had to be put down.
The "suicide race" though is not good for the horse, obviously. They should dispense with the horse and say that the man should go down on its own.
