Stinky Sales Clerk!

  Author:  39887  Category:(Discussion) Created:(9/8/2001 6:41:00 PM)

My daughter and I were shopping today at a nearby town. I asked a clerk in the Sears store about the location of an item I was interested in. She was an older lady. When she got close to me, I almost gasped, she stunk so bad, it was a horrible body odor. My daughter and I just couldn't believe how the other clerks were able to work near her!! I would have sent her home if I had been her boss. What would you do? We thanked her for helping us and told her we preferred to just look around and if we needed her help we would let her know. When she turned her back, we fled. How can you smell this bad and not know it? BUSYBEE

Date: 9/8/2001 6:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 39258    I wouldn't have the guts to send someone home if they stunk..that's mean!! lol she might not have known it because you only notice it if you get a whif of yourself... like, if you purposly smell your arm pits or you run and stop really fast and smell yourself in the wind...and if she's old, i'm sure she's not running around lol but one time, this girl i was kinda friends with had REALLLLLY bad BO and we didnt have the heart to tell her, so we left a little note in her locker that said something ...it wasn't in a mean way... but i mean, id rather have her know than to have her smell like that! -telsha
Date: 9/8/2001 6:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 14780    oh that is sad..but i have seen articles and things about people who just cant help it..its in the body chemistry and im sure that she notices and maybe doesnt have any control over it..but you were very polite about it and i commend you and your daughter...lots of love
Date: 9/8/2001 6:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 7152    Maybe she's old and has lost some of her memory. A few days ago, someone was making fun of an old person because her shoes were on back wards, and the husband of this women heard this person laughting, he came up the the person and said, my wife the one your laughing at has altimers (spelling). Now I wanna know whats so funny about that? The person shut up real quick.
Date: 9/8/2001 6:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 38119    Maybe she had a medical disorder and she couldn't help it if she smelled.
Date: 9/8/2001 6:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 7152    She didnt have her shoes one backwards, she had them on the wrong feet.
Date: 9/8/2001 6:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 39258    that's really sad, bluegirl. i hate it when kids make fun of elder people, it's so mean. -telsha
Date: 9/8/2001 6:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 7152    It wasnt a kid, it was an adult. How sad is that?
Date: 9/8/2001 6:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 39258    oh my gosh, thats worse!! when do people grow up anymore? i mean, i know i'm immature sometimes, but i'd never make fun of someone..jeez! -telsha
Date: 9/8/2001 7:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 4839    Yeah, some people have urinary problems..and something to that affect causes people to smell. You can't get rid of it.
Date: 9/8/2001 7:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 37812    There is no easy way to tell someone they smell bad if they arent aware of it!My friend's mother is a teacher & she had a student that had poor hygiene and it disrupted the class so she suggested the girl wear deodorant & her parents ended up almost having the teacher fired. It a darned-if-ya-dont, danged-if-ya-do situation.Thats good that you were polite to her, I would have just held my breath too & moved along
Date: 9/8/2001 7:41:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 39887    I'll tell you guys something else. I have a friend who had a very overweight daughter. She had a fowl body odor and it made it hard for her to go to school. A lady told her mother if she would get, Wild Country roll-on deodorant from AVON and have her use it everyday, her odor would go away. My friend did this. My friend would put baby wipes in her purse and everytime she went to the restroom she wiped her underarms and applied her roll-on. In about two weeks, her odor was gone so she applied her roll-on at bed time and in the morning when she dressed for school. She is grown and married now and has no problem with odor. You can do something about it. This woman was about 60 I would guess, not too old to care! BUSYBEE
Date: 9/8/2001 9:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 11348    Well honestly, If I was this person's boss I wouldn't be able to tell this lady she smelled bad. I'd probably find someplace she could work while staying at a distance. Maybe give her a free sample of deoderant or something...
Date: 9/9/2001 4:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 31689    Well, awhile back I happened to read one of those dear abby articles and a son wrote in about his older parents, who stopped showering as often because they didn't think they needed to. He said they reallllly stunk and thought they were off their rockers to not noticed how bad they smelled. I believe the response from dear whoever was that your sense of smell deminishes when you get older, and that they probably didn't realize that they were "offensive". So considering that this was an older person, maybe she just doesn't pick up scents as good as she used too.
Date: 9/9/2001 8:19:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 39887    All the more reason someone should tell her in a very personable way. Wouldn't YOU really want to know, I would. I would never want to have bad breath and body odor and NO ONE tell me! If I go back again, I am going to tell her is the sweetest kind of way. I feel like a jerk talking behind her back. I will just take my chances and let the chips fall where they may. If this were your mom or grandma, wouldn't you rather them know? BUSYBEE
