Don't Let the Chain of Love End With You ***Shelly***

I was just commenting on a post and it made me think of a song. I can't remember who sings it but it's a country song called "Chain of Love" It's about an older woman who gets a flat tire. She waits on the side of the road and many people drive right by her until finally one man stops and helps her. She tries to pay him but he tells her not to worry about it, "Don't let the chain of love, end with you" In other words do something good for someone else. Before he leaves he tells her his name is Joe. The woman leaves and stops at a diner. The waitress is about eight months pregnant and looks very tired but keeps a smile on her face. The woman gives her a hundred dollar bill to pay for her check and when the waitress goes to get her change, the woman leaves. When the waitress comes back she finds a note saying, "someone once helped me out, just like I'm helping you, If you really want to pay me back, here's what you do, Don't let the chain of love end with you" The waitress crawls into bed that night with her husband and kisses him telling him "everything's gonna be alright I love you JOE" I got goosebumps the first time I heard this song. You see the man that helped the older woman was the waitress's husband "Joe"

How has this affected me? You may ask. If I see someone in a store that is a dollar short, I give it to them. It's seems like such a small act of kindness, but we never know. Maybe the woman in front of me was buying groceries for her baby and not having that dollar would mean she would have to decide between buying formula or buying diapers. Now she doesn't have to decide. Have you ever done something like this for someone and has anyone ever done this for you?

Date: 8/22/2001 10:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 33925    I have done something for someone, but I have also had something special done for me..I wrote a post awhile back about real life angels..a story of my landlords...if you want to check it out...once, my husband and I were sitting in Mcdonalds having a lunch when in came two small children...they were dressed literally in rags..They had a small amount of change between them and were sitting at a table counting pennies to see if they had enough to get a lunch to split...My heart broke right then and there...I reached into my wallet and took out $5.00 and placed it on the table with their pennies, and just walked away..At least that meal was covered..xoxo

Date: 8/22/2001 10:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 24924    Oh yeah, all the time. Makes you feel so warm inside, and you can sleep sooooooo good at night, just knowing you helped someone that day. I love that song. I can't remember who sang it either. Was it Reba McIntire? I live across the street from a retirement village, and many times I've stopped and ask some of those old folks if I can carry their bags, or groceries, or give them a life, etc.. I love the look on their face, when you smile and cheer them up.

Date: 8/22/2001 10:31:00 AM  From Authorid: 20104    Ive never heard the song, but I almost cried when I read what its about. I like helping people and getting nothing back, but to just see them smile. It makes me feel good.
Date: 8/22/2001 10:36:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 31368    LL, now I'm crying, that is so sweet. I wish I could be a millionaire and help people all the time. But I think sometimes $5 can make a world of difference. Thinker, I always new you were a wonderful person. Someday when we all get rich we will have to start a program to help people. Everyone else I just knew there were so many people on USM that were like me. I wish the whole world say things the way we do. ***Shelly***

Date: 8/22/2001 10:43:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 31368    I posted this because I was making a comment on another story about Christmas. Here's what I wrote. I remember walking down the street one day before Christmas. I was in a pretty miserable mood because I
didn't have enough money to pay bills, and what not. A woman walking by me smiled and said Merry Christmas, and
kept walking. I never believed two simple words spoken by a stranger could make me so happy. My whole spirit was
uplifted and I couldn't stop smiling. I walked around the rest of the day doing the same thing. It wasn't the words
really, it was the thought that someone took time to put a little cheer in my life. I wanted to give others the feeling
she gave me. I don't remember ever feeling so uplifted since. Nothing has ever brought me out of a mood so easily.***Shelly***

Date: 8/22/2001 11:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 35941    What a touching story! One time a couple asked me for a ride, it was cold & raining hard, I didn't trust them to get in my car, but I did give them $5 to get down the highway. Ummm...nothing sticks out, about someone doing me a favor. Will have to think? Canei
Date: 8/22/2001 12:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 24845    I have to say that was a great post. To many times we find ourselves in situations that we might need a helping hand, yet sadly, sometimes that hand is not outstretched. Then sometimes it is. Those are the times when I think that there is still good in people. Especially when I see that there is such evil in the world, it's refreshing to see something good. I try to things like that, try to do something small for someone else, even if it's a kind word. Because what goes around comes around.
Date: 8/22/2001 5:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 39887    I love that song and its meaning. It makes you want to do something nice for someone. I was in a college town shopping one Sat. and a young guy was in front of me buying him something to wear to a party, He for some reason came up 12.00 short and I could see how desperate he was for the outfit. I thought about my young sons and I told the clerk that I would pay the 12.00. He was shocked at first and I told him that if he were my son, I would want someone to help him. I also told him that I was young once and he smiled and gave me a hug. That made me feel good for days on end. To bring happiness to someone else is just an awesome feeling. I pratice it when I can. Thanks for this post, it brought a smile to my face. BUSYBEE
Date: 8/24/2001 8:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 4739    Almost like paying it forward (like the movie). I always try to fit small acts of kindness into my day. It makes it much nicer. *hugs*
