Date: 7/9/2001 1:00:00 AM From Authorid: 35160 whatever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Date: 7/9/2001 1:05:00 AM From Authorid: 18406 I totally agree!! I used to be an Athiest!! |
Date: 7/9/2001 2:24:00 AM From Authorid: 24924 1st of all: That statement makes absolutely NO SENSE whatsoever. You have no idea what the meaning of "faith" is, nor what atheism is, pure and simple. 2nd: To really explain it, and lay it all out here for you to read would be an exercise in futility, Hugo. Based upon reading many of your other comments or posts, it appears that way....to ME, anyway. |
Date: 7/9/2001 8:56:00 AM From Authorid: 17516 Please demonstrate your assertion Hugo. |
Date: 7/9/2001 10:34:00 AM From Authorid: 19273 Atheism is really a lack of belief in any god - not 'not believing' in one. |
Date: 7/9/2001 10:45:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37354 Little Miss Thinker, you sure are closed minded for someone who labels herself a thinker. It is actually possible that some people could know God exists. It is theoretically possible of all the people throughout the ages who have claimed to spoken to God that 1 or 2 or 10 or 20 actually did. It seems impossible to me to prove a negative: that God does not exist. The only truly rational position on religion is agnosticism. Thank you Miss Genius for stooping to reply to a post from little ole me. Maybe you can explain your position to someone in your same league. Hugo |

You STILL have not explained how it is that you feel that it takes MORE faith to NOT believe in god, as opposed to those who do. IF I was so close minded, Hugo, I most certainly would not have bothered to ask you to EXPLAIN yourself, now would I? "Explain it to someone in "My" league"?? I don't have to explain anything here. I was not the one that made the assertion that it requires more faith to not believe. You ever hear of, or know what the expression "BURDEN OF PROOF" means? When YOU can come forth and explain what YOU meant by the statement you posted in the initial post, and or pose some legitimate rebuttal, THEN I will explain MYSELF and or comment on that. OK? |
Date: 7/9/2001 10:58:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37354 Muas, you are correct. My post should read God or Gods(Maybe Goddess and Goddesses too). Hugo |
Date: 7/9/2001 11:03:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37354 I already did, Miss Thinker. It is impossible to prove the negative that God does not exist. Since all I am saying is it is even harder to prove that God does not exist than to prove that he does, someone has to show me the evidence supporting the conclusion there is no God. Hugo |
Date: 7/9/2001 11:06:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37354 Think of it this way. I can prove there is at least one spider in my house by showing someone one. This will not prove there is only 1 spider, there could be many more. It would be much more difficult to prove there are no spiders in my house. Hugo |
Date: 7/9/2001 11:07:00 AM From Authorid: 24924 What Muas was saying is: Atheism is the ABSENCE of faith, the ABSENCE of belief. And, since you stated that it takes MORE FAITH, then you need to give rebuttal to THAT assertion, which you haven't. |
Date: 7/9/2001 11:14:00 AM From Authorid: 11091 I think it takes more determination and willpower to be an atheist. It is much easier to go with the flow of society and not question the exsistance of God(s)But being atheist means there is no belief in God, so what do you as an atheist have faith in. I am also an atheist, well more of a humanist, so don't take this wrong. Just please explain your statement and I will furthur expand on my faith and belief. |
Date: 7/9/2001 11:22:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37354 Let us define faith as a belief held without any scientific data to back it up. I hold atheism is a matter of faith. Prove that God does not exist. Hugo |
Date: 7/9/2001 12:13:00 PM From Authorid: 19220 I wouldn't know howmuch "faith" it takes to be an athist because I am not one. I will not,of course, say that I have more faith either. |
Date: 7/9/2001 12:30:00 PM From Authorid: 24924 Hugo, You made a statement of FACT when you said: "The only thing that requires more faith than believing in God is believing there is no God" You DID NOT SAY anything about this being a debate about IF there IS a god or not. Now, You are pulling a switcheroo here, and turning it into that question by saying "prove there is no god" and avoiding the issue you originally posted as to WHY it takes MORE faith to not believe. Somehow, I don't think you thought the whole thing through, and you're just fishing. Whatever....I'm outta here. |
Date: 7/9/2001 1:32:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37354 I thought it through quite clearly, and fortunately being agnostic I am not biased on the issue as you are. You take great pride in being logical and are unable to understand that it is more illogical not to believe in God as it is to believe in him. I will believe in God the day he taps me on the shoulder and says hey I am here. There is no event I can see that would cause me to believe God definitely does not exist. Hugo |
Date: 7/9/2001 1:38:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37354 Atheists take it as a matter of faith that there is no God. Hugo |

i understand what your saying hugo.good post. Dragon*j724 |
Date: 7/9/2001 6:10:00 PM From Authorid: 38256 I think that what has casued all the confusion in this post is the way you define faith. I think when Hugo was posting this he meant faith to be taken as will power or belif not the faith that is used in a religous sense. Am I right? If so I do belive it would require more faith, at least in yourself to be and Athiest although I am not one. E-cutie86 |

Hey Hugo, that Thinker's a good time, huh? "FIRST OF ALL..." I always REALLY love the names that totally contradict the personality. "2nd" I also LOVE when people try to convince me that Im not an athiest. Especially "smart" girls who picked up a philosophy book one time a couple years back! It's like arguing with a wall! THIRD!!!! Thinker, why don't you try explaining what's wrong with what Hugo said to me. I might understand somewhat better than your interior decorator friends. POWER1 |
Date: 7/13/2001 3:30:00 PM From Authorid: 24924 "names that totally contradict the personality"? um, how about YOURS, eh? "Power"?? LMAO! You're just blowing hot air, and run around all over this board trying to sound like you know what you're talking about.....erm, I said: trying. |
Date: 7/13/2001 7:10:00 PM From Authorid: 17516 LOL @ Thinker! You tell him girl! Power, Thinker could run circles around you and your twisted logic! hahahaha |
Date: 7/13/2001 9:06:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37354 Karma, you are not an interior decorator by any chance are you? Hugo (humor intended) |
Date: 7/16/2001 1:29:00 PM From Authorid: 24924 ^^^^^^^^^ Some people have nothing to say, but they say it anyway. |
Date: 7/16/2001 8:42:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37354 Yes Thinker but you can improve. Saw your picture, you are kinda cute.<wink> Hugo |
Date: 7/18/2001 2:44:00 PM From Authorid: 33817 Let me see, "POWER", as in those people who will transcend their humanity and take their place amongst the gods. Get in line, right behind me. Anyways, once again, a personal attack in response to an honest, earnest question. Sounds like a typical "like my own answers but can't back them up with a Mack Truck" kinda response. POWER1 |
Date: 7/18/2001 2:46:00 PM From Authorid: 33817 Just the name "Thinker" is insufferable. POWER1 |
Date: 7/18/2001 5:29:00 PM From Authorid: 24924 ^^^^Yes, "Think" and "Thinker" WOULD be insufferable to you, Power, since it is obvious you don't practice it. You're grasping at straws, boy. |
Date: 7/19/2001 6:10:00 AM From Authorid: 33817 Can you support my point any more? Can you answer a question, Thinker? Or is schoolyard name-calling all you can muster? You are a master at telling people how wrong they are, then defending your "infalliable logic" with petty insults. I believe we have a liberal democrat in our midst! POWER1 |
Date: 7/19/2001 6:35:00 AM From Authorid: 24924 ^^^^^^^Now THAT is like the pot calling the kettle Black, yes? PowerBoy, give it a rest! |

Why don't you try explaining what's wrong with what Hugo said to me? I might understand somewhat better than your interior decorator friends. Answer the question, Thinker. POWER1 |
