All It Ever Needed

I picked it up
Squeezed it with my hands
Blazed it with my eyes
Guarded it with my heart
Engraved it in my thoughts
Until nothing was there...

I picked it up again
Unable to understand
What I had done
To lose it before

I payed attention to it
It never left my sight
Kept it where none could hurt it
Burried it somewhere it couldn't escape
Then it was gone...

I dropped it again
It lay shiverring on the floor
Neglected and lonely
Still suffering terribly

I picked it up
Held it in my hands
Caressed it with my eyes
Consoled it with my heart
Placed it in my thoughts
And it stayed

I found out that day
That all love ever needed
WAS love...
