If you like handling your pets, you can help other pets as well...

I volunteer at 4 no-kill pet shelters in 4 opposite directions a few hours a week. I maintain the environment, transport the pets for a check up at the hospital, give them a bath, take them for a walk, and I answer the phone calls. It's just me and 15-35 other people raising 700+ pets in all the shelter I go to. It's tiring, but worth helping innocent homeless creatures that won't be able to live without a volunteer's help. The pets are so adorable and friendly. I recommend everyone else to just volunteer for a few minutes at least in a local pet shelter. Shelters need a lot of money and therefore they put up some fundraisers, that you can help with. You can also donate animal supplies (food, litter, litter boxes, blankets, towels, disinfectants) to the shelter. If you'd like, you can be a "foster" owner of a pet and let it live comfortably in your home until it's adopted. There's lots of animals and sometimes not many helpers to support the animals. So if you really care, go out and take some time and give your support to an animal that needs it.

Date: 6/13/2001 11:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 16442    That sounds cool. I love animals and to think of helping out somewhere that they are allowing these animals to live out their lives if need be sounds wonderful. I do not at this point in my life have the time to do it but I think I will make a vow now, to do it at some point. Thank you for this post. : )

Date: 6/14/2001 2:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 34167    I'm hoping to do something similar as soon as my exams pass... i love animals and would love to be able to work with them... the PDSA is just around the corner from me. I should have gone before the exams to sort out work, but it's kinda intimidating :| however after your post i'll make an extra special effort. thanx for the push!! ~Anja~
Date: 6/14/2001 9:20:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 27912    Some shelters only hire 18 years old and older volunteers, because of insurance regulations (something like that)..most shelters allow people of any age.
Date: 6/14/2001 12:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 30996    I love that you do that
I love to go help animals, they are so in need of a friend and someone to love,I lost my 3 cats in a house fire, really sad.
I hate to think of it. I love all animals with all my heart, I always wanted to be a vet.
When I visit the shelters, I leave almost crying because I want to take them all home.
nice story.
