I recieved this from my brother today and I feel like it is a worthy cause to talk about! What do you think? Please share you're feelings about this sensitive issue!-~*Madam Destiny*~

In a message dated 05/23/2001 9:33:20 PM Pacific Daylight Time, TDS617 writes: Subject: Gun control/& Paul Harvey;

Don't know what your view on gun control, but these two Paul Harvey comments really hammer home some great points to think about! Send it to as many as you know and see how they respond.

Subject: Guns:---comment by Paul Harvey. Are you considering backing gun control laws? Do you think that because you may not own a gun, the rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment don't matter? CONSIDER THIS...

In 1929 the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, approximately 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915-1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, the mentally ill, and others, who were unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million "educated" people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

That places total victims who lost their lives because of gun control at approximately 56 million in the last century. Since we should learn from the mistakes of history, the next time someone talks in favor of gun control, find out which group of citizens they wish to have exterminated.

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed, a program costing the government more than $500 million dollars.

The results Australia-wide:

Homicides are up 3.2%,

Assaults are up 8%,

and Armed robberies are up 44%.

In that country's state of Victoria, homicides with firearms are up 300%.

Over the previous 25 years, figures were showing a steady decrease in armed robberies and Australian politicians are on the spot and at a loss to explain how no improvement in "safety" has been observed after such a monumental effort and expense was expended in "ridding society of guns."

It's time to state it plainly; Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws only affect the law-abiding citizens.

OPINION: Paul Harvey on Guns

Paul Harvey's comment on the Columbine High School shootings: How can we blame it all on guns? For the life of me, I can't understand what could have gone wrong in Littleton, CO. If only the parents had kept their children away from the guns, we wouldn't have had such a tragedy. Yeah, it must have been the guns.

It couldn't have been because half our children are being raised in broken homes.

It couldn't have been because our children get to spend an average of 30 seconds in meaningful conversation with their parents each day. After all, we give our children quality time.

It couldn't have been because we treat our children as pets and our pets as children.

It couldn't have been because we place our children in day care centers where they learn their socialization skills among their peers under the law of the jungle while employees who have no vested interest in the children look on and make sure that no blood is spilled.

It couldn't have been because we allow our children to watch, on the average, seven hours of television a day of sex and violence that isn't fit for adult consumption.

It couldn't have been because we allow our children to enter into virtual worlds in which, to win the game, one must kill as many opponents as possible in the most sadistic way possible.

It couldn't have been because we have sterilized and contracted our families down to sizes so small that the children we do have are so spoiled with material things that they come to equate the receiving of the material with love.

It couldn't have been because our children, who historically have been seen as a blessing from God, are now being viewed as either a mistake created when contraception fails or conveniences that parents try to raise in their spare time.

It couldn't have been because we give two-year prison sentences to teenagers who kill their newborns.

It couldn't have been because our school systems teach the children that they are nothing but glorified apes who have revolutionized out of some primordial soup of mud by teaching them evolution as fact and by handing out condoms as if they were candy.

It couldn't have been because we teach our children that there are no laws of morality that transcend us, that everything is relative and that actions don't have consequences. What the heck, the President gets away with it.............

Nah, it must have been the guns.

Date: 5/25/2001 7:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 18737    Hiya, Madame Destiny *hugs* ... Whether firearms are "permitted" or not is irrelevant to those who would fight for "freedom." The founders of this country called that an "inalienable right" not because they were "allowing" people to possess firearms, they recognized that people WOULD own firearms. ... Only sheep look to the government for direction in personal matters. ... Unfortunately, the sheep control this boat and we all have to suffer the consequences. ... The majority of the population *IMO* is more concerned about cheap gas (energy), easy credit and government handouts (corporate or personal) than they are "freedom." ... May peace and harmony be forever yours. /s/ J.T.

Date: 5/25/2001 10:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 34341    Well, first of all, gun control would never work in the USA; the right to own guns is so ingrained in your culture and history, that even if someone wanted to do something about the number of guns out there, it would be futile. The country was born out of violence; it only seems natural that it continues. Nevertheless, many tragedies occur out of impropler use/storage/handling of firearms. While gun control would make little sense, perhaps the need is for more education. However, over all, I have a hard time believing that the government would suddenly decide to confiscate guns. Believe it or not, they have the power to do it NOW if they want to. If you register a gun, they know where it is! But, that said, I don't think they will come knocking on anyone's door anytime soon...<glock>
Date: 5/25/2001 11:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 13388    The government may slowly and stealthily try to take our guns away but not without a fight. Not only is it our right, it is our duty as American citizens, if for nothing more than defense. Governments are easily corrupted and when that happens we can only rely on ourselves for protection. Thomas Jefferson said, "When the government fears the people, there is liberty.
When the people fear the government, there is tyranny." Our freedoms have been slowly stripped away, mere vestiges of what they once were, but there is a point at which the American people need to stand firm and resist the unreasonable governmental requests to lay aside arms. The problems in today's society do not revolve around firearms but around the family, as the author states. Guns have been present in households for as long as there have been households in this country...why is it they only became a problem in the last few years? With freedom comes responsibility, so take the yoke or succumb to tyrrany. As for myself, they will pry my gun from my cold, dead hands.
Date: 5/26/2001 5:51:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36046    Thank you all for the wonderful comments! I think the majority rules with regard to this issue! "WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BARE ARMS!!!Its so nice to see your post J.T! Its always nice to hear your comments! Also, Glock! You have a wonderful point ! Paul Harvy is wonderful, I agree Free Girl! My fear about this whole "Gun Control" issue, sits primarily with the abbillity to protect myself and my family! As was mentioned by, Glock, the goverment is aware of where the registerd guns are, however, the ones we need to worry about are the ones in the hands of unregisterd owners! When we, as law abiding citizens, become vulnerable to to the ills of a tormented society, by loss of protection , there will be much death and corruption, as if there isn't already enough. The criminals will still have their ways of aquiering weapons, while the rest of us, will be stuck without resources of protection! It's not the guns commiting the crimes! Its the unlawful citizens, with the, often unregistered guns, commiting the crimes!Author 13388, I agree with you as well! We are being slowely stripped of our freedoms! This is ,after all, supposed to be "The land of the Free!" Now, we aren't even free to decide on a simple issue such as, to wear or not to wear a seat belt! Recently, it was in the news about a young mother, whom was sent to jail, because, she wasn't wearing a seat belt! No ticket, no warning, no nothing! Just straight to jail! She even had her children in the car with her, whom, I might add, were safely ,straped into their seatbelts and car seats! What has America come to? Where has our freedoms gone?
Date: 5/28/2001 12:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 30847    I think the idea of gun control is stupid. Ignorance is the cause of all the violence, not guns. It doesn't matter if you take all the guns out of America, people would still be hurting each other. Students would still bomb schools or would stab each other. And you know that gangs and criminals would find a way to get them, or what if they attacked you and you needed your gun to protect yourself or your loved ones?!?
Date: 6/20/2001 10:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 36901    If someone decides to get a gun and kill no law will stop them. I don't know where this quote came from but I'll leave you with it. Guns don't kill, people do. ~Apryl~
Date: 7/2/2001 1:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 38474    They need to enforce the already existing laws befor passing others. They will never take MY GUNS..............Racquie
