Date: 5/14/2001 9:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 24963    I have always been depressed. It is a very rare thing if I am not depressed. I always wondered what was wrong with me, and I couldn't figure it out. Well I found out that depression runs in my family. It's some sort of chemical imbalance. I think for some people it is a medical reason. For others it could be a mental thing. And there's the classic "having a horrible day/week/month ect. and just feel like crap about it. There may be a few out there who could help it. but for the most part, people cannot help but being depressed for one reason or another. Those whom haven't ever been truely depressed really don't understand that someone who is depressed can't "just get happy". It is never that simple. There are alot of misconceptions like that out there about it.

Date: 5/14/2001 9:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 28848    Well I know for a fact that some cases of depression are caused from chemical imbalance. I have been diagnosed with depression for the last 14 years of my life. It is a very serious and debilitating Illness. Only those who suffer or have a love one that suffers from it could understand what it really means to have depression. CPM

Date: 5/14/2001 9:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 17081    I just watched a tv commecial for zoloft, explaining that it is a chemical imbalance.
Date: 5/14/2001 11:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 35114    It's not the persons fault at all. I've had bad depression all my life. I hardly ever have a reason to be depressed to. I don't know exactly how it happens but it IS a disorder out of the persons control. ~*~Kawaii Neko~*~
Date: 5/15/2001  From Authorid: 34703    It is a chemical imbalance. They cannot help it.-jejemi33
Date: 5/15/2001 12:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 9112    No personal offense intended, Author, but honestly...what kind of stupid question is that? First of all, every case and situation differs from the next. It's not so cut and dry like that. This came off extremely insensitive on your part. Depression is a serious thing. It's not as if it's an every day issue to have a -comment-a-thon- on. ~~
Date: 5/15/2001 4:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 13324    It IS a chemical embalance.Theres a chemical in us called
seritonin and if we dont produce enough of this then you get depressed.thats what all
the drugs are for ,to raise your seritonin levels.namnik

Date: 5/15/2001 5:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 31535    Ok, I saw this and just had to comment. Yes, it is a chemical imbalance in the brain due to the chemical Seretonin(called the "happy hormone" It is also hereditary too. I was diagnosed with it 6 years ago and notice a big difference when I dont take anti-depressants. My younger brother, my mom, and my grandmother all have bipolar depression. And my great aunt had it so bad she smothered herself with a plastic bag at age 45. **MoonstonePagan**
Date: 5/15/2001 5:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 30786    There are medical causes for depression or aphysical reason for it, yes. But speaking from someone who has actually been depressed, you cannot just "be happy" It's something very deep that you cannot control. If we could just be happy, we would.
Date: 5/15/2001 6:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 34487    Definitely it can be due to chemical imbalances. I lived with a manic depressive (my mother) for my entire childhood. Not until just recently did she start to admit that she had a problem. She is on medication and it has made an immense difference. I don't blame her for having this chemical imbalance but I wish that she would have done something sooner so we could have had a good relationship. I know many people that suffer from this disorder and similar ones and feel they are only at fault if they do nothing about it.
