The ones who read my profile, know that I work in a systems department. It happens regularly that panic is caused by messages containing warnings about so called 'very dangerous' viruses (especially the phrase 'more destructive than the I LOVE YOU virus' is very popular).
The phone doesn't stop ringing after a message of that kind is distributed. So, I have made it a policy within our company that those kind of messages are only to be forwarded to me and not to every single staff member.
Now to get to the point that I want to make : there is a site of Symantec on which you can find out if the virus is for real or if it is a so called 'HOAX' virus. I want to share it with you so that, when you receive a message in your mailbox, you can check it out and send the URL to the person who forwarded the message to you. Here it is : http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html
These messages don't only cause unnecessary panic, they also take up space and time on the net. If everyone that receives a hoax virus message, checks it out and informs the sender of the message about the site, than perhaps we can make way for serious information.
Thanks ! How it changed my life:After I told everyone to forward these messages to me only, panic attacks no longer rule. I inform the forwarded and he/she informs his/her contact. It has made my life a bit easier.
