I don't want to seem critical of the USA but how on earth do these kids get these guns ... and shouldn't the whole of America really start to address this 'gun' problem now ... not next year or the year after ... BUT NOW? How many kids must die in schools before something gets done? |
Date: 4/6/2001 7:37:00 AM From Authorid: 25828 scary thought yes, and I am close to a high school administrator and it scares me for him as well...I think there should be metal detectors at all entrances of schools...it's a shame you can't just say all high schools..but looks like it needs to be 'ALL' schools..sad..~heather |
Date: 4/6/2001 7:37:00 AM From Authorid: 3648 It's a scarey thought, I always thought my kids were safe at school, but my safe net was taken away Tuesday from me, when I found out a kid had a "hit list" with my son's name on it, this kid had been bringing knifes to school and gotten away with it, and Wednesday he planned on bringing a gun, to do away with the kids on his list....well he was caught in time, but I still feel unsafe sending my kids to school now, the child's hearing is the 18th but it still makes you wonder what this world is comming to....if this is happening on the elementary level.......home school is looking better and better..... |
Date: 4/6/2001 7:48:00 AM From Authorid: 3648 I wish there was something that could be done, I feel a lot of the blame falls on the parents, if they have guns then they should be kept unloaded under lock and key ....parents should be more involved with their kids....A child should not feel as though they have to bring guns etc. to school to fix problems they are having..... |
Date: 4/6/2001 8:08:00 AM From Authorid: 29199 It probably won't. I'd suggest just trying to teach your daughter the best you can about keeping them out of school, maybe she could help and let her friends know. Ya never know, she could save lives some day. |

OMG grey eyed girl, I'm glad your son is o.k. That is terrible!!! How can kids think of doing things like that?? I'm only 26, and when I was in school, there never was an incident with a gun, thats so scaring, it seems like the world is turning for the worse. My daughter knows that they are bad and everything, and I will not let my husband own one! We have a LOUD dog, thats all the protection we need!!! What is this world coming to??? ghostbuster#1 |
Date: 4/6/2001 1:23:00 PM Kids today need to be educated into what the realities and consequences of gun use mean. When I was young we had guns in the house, that were not locked up. I did not take guns to school or anywhere else, becasue I was taught about them. Not just how to shoot, but the consequences of how shooting affects myself and others. I have raised three boys and all of them have been educated as to the effects of guns. Not once has one of them had a bad gun related incident. If you make something a mystery to kids they are more atracted to it. I agree that kids should not take weapons to school, but where are the parents of these children. What are they doing or not doing to educate their children to the dangers of improper gun usage. A gun is only a piece of metal. Without that person pulling the trigger it can not hurt anyone. Take a look at our society today. Video games, movies, tv shows etc all about how someone who is supposed to be a hero, pulls out his gun and blows away the bad guyt with no consequences. We have created our own monster by allowing this garbage to happen. I dont believe thaat the answer is to ban guns, but to stop glamorizing killing. |
Date: 4/6/2001 8:30:00 PM From Authorid: 16612 The school terrorism has rapidly increased since they first started reporting it on the news alot. It's a fad now.If the media quit giving it all the attention it gets, then I believe the school shootings and bombings would slow down by a significant margin.Like I said, it's a fad now.Kids see it in the news and think "Whoa!I'm gonna be a legend!!I'll get my face on the cover of Time magazine!Duhduh duh.". and then they go pull a school terrorist act. |

Date: 4/10/2001 2:05:00 PM From Authorid: 9713 I agree with Tessek. Its the media. My school had about 20 bomb threats last year, AFTER Columbine. If the media didn't make it out to be that big of a deal(which it is, but you no my point) then there would be a lot less shootings etc. |
