Totally agree. Too many members come in looking for a 'fight' and seem to be totally clueless as to what debating is all about which is why I generally stay away from the topic because I have gone there to 'debate' and 'arguments' seemeed to be the method used to communicate. |

Is Debate often confused with arguements?? Yes here it does seem to be that way. That is why like 32 Degrees, I also avoid that area. This last thing I need is to get into arguments over the internet. Some debates turn out well if the people involved are mature, but too many times I have seen debates turn into name calling matches and it just isn't fun...LisaNY1 |

I think the only alternative to this is to begin a new section "OPINIONS". Debate has taken on the appearance of discussion at times and argument at other times. Primarily due to religious disagreements. However, the religious section and the spiritual have been largely turned into pulpits for christianity. Those of us who do not adhere to that theology prefer to discuss and/or agrue beliefs somewhere other than those areas. We all know what wars have been fought in those areas. This is our only venue for debate/discussion/disagreement. The "let's just all get along" is nice and fluffy, but like Marxism, it works on paper, not in practice. So, if it seems that we are not actually following the rules of debate, then perhaps the spiritual section should be told as well that many posts are no more then 'preaching' which is not spirituality, but proselytizing. Just my opinion. Peace, |

well this was posted yeterday and i will say the same thing to you i said to them. People have many different views on things. Arguments are bound to get heated if someone questions another persons views. You occationally disagree and argue with your friends and family, right? Why should it be different here? that is life. |

Good point, but people have their own opinions on things, bound to step on each others toes sometimes |

I think it's impossible in most debates to not start an argument. |

I dunno, as long as there is no profanity involved and people aren't throwing punches, it's all good. People disagree, that's life... |

A debate is the exchange of knowledge; an argument is the exchange of ignorance. I'm not sure who said that but it is a very true statement!! ~peace~ |
