I agree with you! Where is the fear in doing a crime in you are going to be sent to a Boarding School! I just learned the other day that they have access to computers. This is such a slap in the face to law abiding people that it is unconscionable! Light and Love |

Prisons were never meant to be a place of torture, but they were never meant to be so easy going either. A friend of mine was in prison, and he was on their track team, swim team, and volleyball team. He even came home with medals he won. Some say this rehabilitates prisoners, but he went back a 2nd time. So if pampering rehabilitation doesn't work, and if you can't "torture" someone who will eventually re-enter society, where is the middle ground? This debate has been going on for a long time, and nobody seems to have an answer. -Mighty Mouse- |

I think they should torture people like Timothy McVeigh, maybe he would like that even better. They need to make prison a place people don't want to be. I once heard a story of a homeless person who was trying to get in jail so he would have a roof over his head, food, and a bed. (<>..<>Alien |

You see the bad thing about Timothy McVeigh is he wants the death penaly!! I don't think they should give him the death penalty BUT lock him down in the "Hole" and only feed him bread and water, no cable no nothing! |

Though I didn't watch the show, I agree with you. Prisons do not work. They used to be called Penitentiaries, where prisoners did "penance" for their sins, but are now called correctional facilities, where prisoners' bad behavior is "corrected". I believe that rehabilitation (in its current form) DOES NOT work. 9 times out of ten, when let out, prisoners will return to their old lifestyle. Also, did you know that America is the country with the most prisons and that a staggering number of our population is behind bars. There are so many prisoners, that we have to keep building new "correctional facilities" just to keep up with their growing numbers. With statistics like these, you'd think that the gov would crack down and action would be taken to find alternative solutions. Cable tv, extracurricular activities, etc are NOT deterrents. As for torturing, people are protected by the eighth amendment from cruel and unusual punishment...so torture isn't an option available to us. I personally believe that the problem lies more with society. We need to intervene when we first spot problems, it is easier to rehabilitate children than grown adults. I think that prisoners and maybe their families should have to pay for their stay in prison. Maybe when they have to support themselves with their own cash, they'll be less inclined to return. Even 'Super-Max' prisions, supposedly the toughest there is, life is not that bad. In North Carolina, Central Prison, in Raleigh, doesn't reallt srtike fear into law breakers who are sentenced there. Prisons are way too easy on the inmates, torture is against the law, but I have no problems with taking away their t.v.'s, not letting have access to weight lifting equippment, for obvious reasons, and use of solitary confinement for longer times, for lesser serious offenses. |

They do like being in prison. It's ridiculous! U.S. Prisoners get cable TV, computers, pool tables, pinball machines, ping pong tables, and some prisons even have BOWLING ALLEYS!!!.All because of the Democrats. They should take all that fun stuff out of prison and nail 'em to the wall and feem them bread crust and water. |

I think it's probably a better living than a lot of us hard working taxpayers have that's why so many of them go right back in when they are released. great post-Dreamer204 |

He should be put in a room the 5x5x5. Than they should post pictures of all the people that he killed. Than all day long they should play tapes of people screaming and dieing. I think that would be agony. Because than he could see all the people he killed. Timothy Mcviegh is not human. If that didn't work than they should toture him. I still feel bad for all those people that died. ~Snow Monkey~ |

Prison is like a country club that you just can't leave. They have friends, they have cable, they play games, they eat 3 meals a day, and on and on. I know working people who can't afford cable, yet these criminals have all the perks. It's amazing. Lisa |

The prisoners in CA State prison must purchase their own TV's. I suppose there are TV's in the lounges. But they are locked down frequently for days. They buy their own issue at the canteen of anything that is considered a luxury item, which we would take for granted. Mostly food & cigerettes to trade for more food. They do get books to read, and free legal. Everyday you live by the prison-world rules, and live with assorted characters that can take advantage of you or you can be at the wrong place at the wrong time, or you can simply say something wrong. Survival does become part of the every day life. Phone calls are collect and only to those privileged to work. They are recorded and timed, and listened to live. Just like visiting, they get naked before they go back in and lucky guards even can take a flashlight and look up their butts with it. Its no piece of cake. Youre not supposed to want to go back. Rehabilitation-wise, its a total joke.Any major company will NOT hire anyone that has commited a felony. I wish more kids looking their way to the road in prison would look a little more to their own future and self worth. ~greyhound |

Take a look a the minimum security federal prisons - these places come off looking like a "country club" - if this is punishment then I wonder what torture is. Antona |

I agree. I think the prison system we have today is a joke. Instead of punishing the criminals we reward them by giving them better care than most normal people get. It's no wonder why people keep ending up back in jail all the time. Ladybug |
