Change of direction....... I recently had something knocked into me today, that i can't get out of my head. I'm going to college next year 4 comp. prog., but I don't think it's right for me. Ever since i was little i wanted to be a vet. Seriously, you should see all the stray animals i've brought home LOL. I think I only wanted to do that because of the money and the fact that my dad thought it would be a good career. He's talked to me about being a vet before, but we decided it wouldn't be worth schooling. But i thought it's not the money it's the fact i would have a job i would love to go to everyday. Is that wrong, or should i stay where the money is and have a good chance of landing job after college. or should i become a vet, which i would love to do?????? Any suggestions would be helpful??

To answer your question...I know far too many doctors who have told me that they did not follow their heart....and knowing what they know now they wish they could go back and change things and be something other than what they are because their heart is really not in it and they are not happy with their lives....no matter how much money they make. Not that saving lives is not important....but the more important thing is that you live a life that you are happy with and you enjoy getting up each day and look forward to the events in your life. -Lady Nyx

Date: 3/28/2001 1:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 29432    I am sure you know what you have to go through to become a vet and how long it takes. These are considerations you need to take in when coming to a decision. Your dad has probably gone through this with you especially due to the massive amount of effort it takes to pass this arduous task. Can you afford it? Can you sustain such a long course and are you academically able to accomplish the task? All these and more are valid points but there is something that is of grater importance. Your happiness. If it is something you know you truly wish to do then take a chance. There is nothing worse than being in a job that you are unhappy with, not that that's what will happen but if you get an opportunity to go for that dream career then just take it.
Date: 3/28/2001 5:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 18201    It's your life, not your dad's...and even though he loves you and I'm sure he's thinking of the cashflow in the future, you have to find a job that you will enjoy for the rest of your life, not just something that will pay the bills. My husband went to college for years to learn skills that he rarely uses anymore...now he's completely changed careers and is doing what he always wanted to do in the first place! In my opinion, the waste of money would be going to school for comp prog...If anything, go to veterenary school and take a certification course in comp...often in vet school, you can intern at a clinic, but it takes a while to get in. The cert programs are shorter and cost less, so if you took that first, you could get a temporary job as a programmer and "test the waters". You'd have something to fall back on, just in case Good Luck! Brightest Blessings! ~*~VaiaMoonShadow~*~
