Where your boots go

Why do some farmers and ranchers hang old boots on fenceposts?

One theory is that they are to keep coyotes away, but a vet name Bob Henderson claims that coyotes are too smart to be fooled more than once or twice by this.

No one seems to really know the answer about this, so I ask you, why do some farmers and ranchers put old boots on their fenceposts?

Date: 3/27/2001 8:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 277    I'm just guessing that they don't want to track mud in the house or they're just plain lazy to put them in the trash. This is coming from a city girl, so I have no idea.
Date: 3/27/2001 10:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 25438    Farmers don't put boots on there fence posts. I believe that they have never done that and never will. It would be ridiculous and without reason. (Sorry I just had to do it....I was in the mood to debate..so I came here and oop!!!) no offence to author! Blue Knight

Date: 3/27/2001 5:05:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 1055    To author 23548, farmers do put boots on their fenceposts. I should know, I live on a farm and we put boots on our fenceposts. Still, my parents have no idea why they ever started doing this. The reason I asked this is because it is one of the few unanswerable questions of the world. Just thought someone might have an interesting theory. -Universal Traveler-
