Where did you find it?
Who gave you that special key,
To open the door leading into my mind,
Setting my inner thoughts free?

They once were buried so deep
Locked behind a wall I put into place
Then you came along with that key
And now those thoughts I must face

'Tis a good thing you think? I am not sure
For it was easier to leave them be
Put away for so very long they were
Now they are in the open, displayed for you to see

Heartache and pain, burdens and sorrows
Experiences lived; dead they should have remained
But now I must deal with each of them, one by one
As they creep from behind the wall where once restrained

You said you were my friend as you slowly unlocked the door
Offering a shoulder of support to have me face the dark
Now where are you? Beside me will you continue to stand?
Holding my hand, as on this treacherous journey I embark?

Reasons you believe I have for not revealing who I am
For hiding behind true feelings, and building a wall
Afraid to allow those that care to enter into my world
So I locked much of my spirit and soul away from all

You see this as a defense mechanism put into play
Shielding myself from any more pain to embrace
Loving and caring I am, but living behind protection
Not allowing anyone to penetrate my wall I put in place

But there you were, with your caring nature and loving ways
Armed with a key that somehow did mysteriously appear
Not afraid of what it is you have now unlocked and set free
Promising to be near, encouraging me to live again without fear

I will grow stronger with each day I am made to face
But believe me, your help I need. I can not go this alone,
When you turned that key, you said you would be there
I needed to open up, and you would not leave me on my own.

You know this is frightening, to allow the door to be unlocked
To live a life outside of my wall; To feel again; To open my heart;
Your promised to be here, knowing I can not face this all alone
I need you now, you know that, from my side, please do not part.
