Good evening USM’s Angels

Hope my posting finds every one doing well on this January night…….. Just an update…….. I came in from feeding earlier and it started snowing…sparkling like diamonds in the late evening lights There’s something magical about the snow isn’t there? It makes one feel almost like a child again……. Memories of long ago…reminiscing of skating with my younger brother on the ice frozen creek behind our house

Making snowmen and snow forts………. I recall we hid just down below the country grocery market and down over the bank beside the highway when Mr Moore drove along while we bombed his pickup truck with snow! {haha} I don’t think he ever figured out it was us…The Little Rascals of Hayes Crossing ~Smiles~ Oh we had some fun let me tell you! We went to Grandma’s house one late evening….the roads were too icy treacherous to return home so we stayed the night……….

There was a whole house-full of cousins, aunts, uncles……. We all decided we were going to go sledding……… First My Older brother, who I call Bub and there was Will, Andy, my younger Brother AJ, one of our aunt’s; Annie, the baby of her siblings and me I can’t remember if there was someone else, seems like there was, oh yes, cousin Von, Will’s younger brother…I think their brother Howard was too young for this trip! LOL And what a trip it was! First, after rummaging through some junk behind the old smokehouse….

.we found an old piece of cardboard….well, it didn’t last long until it fell apart let me tell you….not with Our gang!.-------We then found an old hood from a car one of the uncle’s had removed from one of the cars they had previously worked on Well, we thought we were really doing something with that old car hood!.......Away we all went on that hood sliding down the hill on snow & icy pavement……

we were moving pretty fast…..but just not fast enough……I remember well how cold it was that night, we should have went inside to warm up …….but we were having so much fun we never really noticed. We decided three at a time would get on the car hood maybe it would move faster if we lightened the load….but we were soon bored with the car hood and went in search of something that would take us down that hill just a little faster!! After searching for about thirty minutes, we struck Gold!------

We could have given the intimidator a run for his money!-------There it was…… a windshield in an old car…..But we were going to have to work for it and it wasn’t going to be easy peasy……We found a hammer and goodness knows what else…….. but like professionals, we were able to pry loose and remove the windshield from that forgotten car…..at least we thought it had been forgotten…the words Chevelle in silver lettering had come loose and were dangling from its side……..there were weeds, branches that had been growing from beneath the flooring of the car….the red paint had faded and cracked from Kentucky’s change in seasons…We carefully removed the windshield and I took a quick peek inside…..

The black interior had a musty smell……a silver cross hung from the rearview mirror…… We all were excited….. laughing…..as we carried the windshield back to the hill at grandma’s house. We were in business now! We must have rode that windshield for another 4 to 5 hours….it was way into the night before we put it away, ……stashing it behind the willow tree down by the garden…..We slid all the way over that hill to the main highway! Oh what fun we had that night……I’ll never forget it!.....

Still, I shudder as I realize with time comes wisdom hopefully……Thinking back on it now, we all could have been seriously hurt in so many ways……That windshield gave us speed alright!........I’ll bet we would have matched the speed of a car driving at least 30 mph maybe more! The windshield itself could have come apart, shattering cutting us badly-----we could have slid out onto the highway although I don’t recall any cars being on the road…… we could have skated on the road it was nothing but solid ice as we went on like Snoopy's Red Baron------we were night flyers!!……….. Still I cannot help but feel a giggle…. Smiling at the thought…..

We Had SO Much FUN!!!!

Here’s to You, Will……….We Love You….and we will always remember ………….

Good night Angels, Stay warm.....be safe------ God bless, Where ever You are
