~Reflections of Autumn~
Festive and bright….. these yellow, green, orange lights Warm inviting fire On a cold Autumn night
Black cats with orange---black bows Scarecrow smiles a secret smile only he knows pumpkins and fodder by the door On display these gobbly jack o lanterns…. gourds
Shy young Doe watches from a wooded path I quietly close the gate The russet, of giant oaks golden of the maple tree…. fiery red of a hickory The sound of their dance in the wind they make as remnants left behind Crunch beneath my feet
These weathered boards upon the porch Creaking with every step a quilt lies draped across a rocking chair there Scarecrow with his painted face---upon a swing gently sways His smile in greeting to Autumn friends he has met
Children’s laughter Bobbing for apples Lovers holding hands Underneath the glow of a harvest moon As the wind through the silver chimes plays a soft tune
Bonfire burning bright As the stars twinkle in the night Upon a velvet curtain
Andromeda, Perseus of this I’m certain Poses there beside Orion They’re like diamonds frozen in time
The fragrance of the woods Take me back once again To my childhood Memories they are strong As time seems to move along…so quickly now
Recalling fondly …..Cinnamon, apple butter… apple pie, with dumplings all those rolls you baked We could hardly wait Gathering in the kitchen Savoring Mama’s tasty dishes
Dad and brothers, their laughter I pause only for awhile Here in the silence lingers long after joy this reminiscing brings
reflection on these treasures Who could possibly measure As yesterday, today mingles, intertwines and yet the years they fade into the past Who knows what tomorrow brings But for a moment this reminder…..Love of Family is forever sublime Priceless….. Memories…….. echoing sweetly down through these passages…….. of time……..
