Good early morning USM Angels!

Hoping All are doing very well..

I’m getting ready to turn in for the evening.. I didn’t sleep much last night, My Mama had quite a lot on her mind, wanting to talk so we were up real late talking, tonight I’m still up a little later than usual but it’s ok too. Mom & I sitting up talking on the phone reminded me of the old times and I rather enjoyed it even if we both lost a little sleep. She kept apologizing but I assured her there wasn’t any need in doing that.. I love all of our talks and spending as much time with each other as possible. This early morning, late night I’m keeping my cats awake haha but they sleep whenever and wherever. Some of their late night antics keep me awake at times too haha

This past week I’ve had one person to ask me if they could ask me a question if It doesn’t make me mad…haha…me mad? Haha surely not! ;) :D-----The person asked what was the purpose in having all of my dogs. Then, later a couple more people asked my Mother the same question-----why did I have so many dogs and how did I come by having all of my dogs---- Hmm, well It must be a matter of Love……I love them very much, number two I’ve raised most of them from puppy’s, you don’t just throw away someone you consider family…… While it’s true some are Rescues…but you know something, I consider that they’ve really “rescued me. My goodness, what would I ever do without them now!? They’re so much company to me…….they are like my children. They are family…… When someone says to me….why do you have all those dogs 7 of various breeds though all are large breed dogs. How did it all happen to be that I have that many dogs?

Well…this is our story of how my Dogs came home-----

…my late husband Edward and I started out with 2 and 3 dogs between us. There was the late great Sam, a rescued loveable Foxhound, I know most who have been here at USM for any number of years have heard my stories about Sambo, Lil Bear an alpha female Rottie (Lil Girl and now I also call her Bearoness) a little play on words there :)….. and then let's see, the late great rescued miniature Doberman/wire- haired Terrier Tobie Mouse…and I brought with me my beautiful female German Shepherd, Sheyoni and the late great rescued Maltese, Rags. After Sam passed away under questionable circumstances….My older brother found Egan a beautiful Anatolian shepherd puppy, rescuing him from an accident waiting to happen. Rags passed then Tobie….Such very sad days they were, I miss them more than words can possibly express.

But Samantha found her way to our home and was rescued…but then again, she rescued us with her playful loving nature. She is Terrier Mixed with possibly either Australian Shepherd or Airedale. With fondness, she reminds me of Tramp in the Disney movie animation, Lady and the Tramp...While our big loveable Pup Egan stole my husband’s heart becoming his faithful companion until the very end.. When I first brought him home, I didn't think Edward would accept him, in fact he seemed more than a little irritated....but isn't it how it usually happens? Something You thought you didn't want, You end up treasuring....I'll never forget when we first took Egan to his Vet...he laughed commenting on how huge he was and still a puppy-----He said he had huge paws, elbows and he laughed......and that he was curious to see what he looked like when he grew up....Naturally he made a very big dog and we discovered his breed is the Anatolian Shepherd originating from Turkey and the same Vet laughed during one of our visits commenting on his bark saying it sounded like thunder! haha------It's quite interesting how we came by his name but I'll share it another time....

We were planning to take our Rottie to the vet spaying her.....but as the story goes, Egan was sneaky., he & Lil Bear together had the “3 K’s” Kaden, Kiera and Koda, sometimes referred to as Kodie----- mixed with Rottweiler and Anatolian Shepherd, they are very big dogs I might add and most folks are quite apprehensive when visiting here at my little mountain cabin home. But with good reason, my babies are quite protective of me.. I often mention them as characters in some of my writings as well as other animals that come here to the farm. We had a near catastrophe a while back. Kaden loves to hunt with his mother…….when On this particular day, I noticed they had been gone quite a while..

My Mom was visiting and we had been sitting in the kitchen, I got up and went outside onto the porch looking around the farm for them. After several minutes of calling for them, I went back inside…Telling my Mom I felt a little apprehensive that they weren’t home yet. .it was well after 2:00pm and normally they were back at home……..finally another hour later, they came in. First Lil Girl’ then finally Kaden came in. I looked for him from the window and seeing him I noticed something metal was attached to his left front foot/paw. My heart sank when I went out onto the porch seeing that it was a jump trap.. Goodness only knows how long my Boy had to work to get that thing loosened from the ground! And had he not been a big dog, big and strong he may not have been able to. I had heard stories from people saying that some dogs that got into those traps couldn’t get free and starved to death or passed from the pain and injuries being caught in the traps themselves…. Oh I was extremely upset to say the least.

I called their veterinarians and they actually called a neighbor whom I really didn’t know about until that day. He was so kind and had said to me if I ever needed his help again, to call him. I appreciate his assistance and help very much. We were able to step down on the trap and I lifted Kaden’s foot/paw out of the trap…He was in so much pain, you could see it on his face in his eyes… it took a month for his foot/paw to heal properly…I confronted the man who had set the traps and I still have his trap. Though he apologized, there’s no excuse…Trapping our pets in their so called coyote traps doesn’t mesh. There has to be another solution to the coyote problem. I said as much and I wondered why the man who is a long time farmer, cattle owner had not purchased a couple of Jennies turning them loose inside his fenced fields to take care of the coyotes. .My dogs are herding dogs, they are guardians of sheep, cattle, goats and when they don’t have those to protect, they are very protective of their human companions.

I keep them close to home as much as I possibly can------I’ve had a person to accuse my dogs of chasing cattle…”They herd them, their natural instinct is to Protect, they don’t chase them….there are several large white dogs that seem vicious farther out the ridge that sit at night by the roadside watching for the cattle and various other animals. I’ve been out coming in at night from visiting family and have seen the dogs…The neighbor that had accused our dogs of chasing his cattle….someone killed his Rottweiler because it had attacked another family’s dog that was on its chain and couldn’t defend itself…So sad.. Every now and then….when problems trouble and near catastrophe’s occur-----they are avoided, resolved thankfully-------I’m very protective of them naturally. Raising them from puppy’s watching them grow up, having their own little personalities, spending time with them each and every day….they do become family…. and when someone asks me, “ what are you going to do with all those dogs, or why don’t you give them away finding good homes for them”…I find it very offensive.------- It’s like someone telling me to give away my Children-----------….Would I do it again? I’m sure I would as much as I love my dogs---afterall it is a matter of Love..:) Now the CATS are another matter altogether! ;) Those two are little criminals----GiGi & Sabien, but I’ll save their story for another post!  But we’re all doing ok with the help of The Good Lord….

When I logged on earlier, I noticed my Messages was blinking…..I just love that when it happens!  ;)……I noticed I have a very pretty award in my Profile from Sarah D. Thank You so much for such a lovely award….receiving it made my night….week! It feels so nice to be appreciated… Thank You again, Darlin its greatly appreciated as You are as well! Its our people that make USM the very Special place that it is and I’m blessed to be a part of it for these past years… Blessings to all….Goodnight <3

Date: 5/9/2019 7:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Greetings, sister. We have a three year old "Texas Heeler." (Of course, you know he had to be a "Texas" heeler.) He is actually cross breed; Australian cattle dog (blue heeler) with border collie. My grandson and I found him curled up under one of our deer blinds. He is an active rat killer and will take rabbit, squirrel, birds; just about anything he can catch. Sangelina loves the little mugger and I guess I do, too. Yes, it must be love. Take care of you, Kentucky Bluebird.
