First Song of the Whippoorwill~
When I look around me This house where we loved together So many moments once shared The laughter we knew
Here in this place where there lived happiness How could we have known On that day God would call you away And time would separate me from you
In the early morning sunrise I think of birds singing--- bees humming While butterflies float in midair I see the beauty of God’s creation everywhere
Now Winter winds have come-----so cold blowing in Here in the garden where our roses grew Still I’m so thankful----as I feel God’s love and that’s enough Living by faith----He’ll make a way Walking each step day by day He sees me through
There’s a photograph of you on our dresser As the tears slip from my face to touch your smile My fingertips retrace----a beautiful lone spectator frozen in time As many thoughts go walking through my mind
I try not to take one day for granted It’s just I miss you so much When every where I look there’s the memory of your love
Your favorite shirts still hanging in the closet The way you left them there Your shoes and those pair of faded jeans As if your not really gone at all your guitar in the corner But the saddest of all, I saw Egan as he sat looking across the meadow As if waiting-------waiting to catch but a glimpse of you it seems Expecting you to come again Then a car or truck drives down the lane----- He’ll go lie down beside your boots with his head upon his paws…
I’ll wipe away the tears-----try to smile through the pain------since you went away---- I’ll look for joy in the smallest things As the stars fill the skies---night has fallen here in the silence The echoes still linger long after the first song of the whippoorwill
