My Story...............Arion

Greetings and Salutations USM!! It's been a while since I've been around so I thought I'd drop in and give a report.

This last year has been both good and bad. Last summer I wound up in the hospital three times with gastric-reflux disease. The pain was so bad I was practically crying. The doctors were mystified as to the cause, but eventually I figured it out on my own. It turns out that I am allergic to Kale! I'd been using it in salads and whip-shakes as part of a new diet. Once I stopped eating it, the problem disappeared.

It caused me to miss a really important job interview, too. Fortunately the interviewers were sympathetic, and agreed to reschedule, and I later got the job. More on that later.

Last year, after ten years of solitude following a bad divorce, I married again! My new wife is named Kellie. She works in Financial Management. It's the second time around for both of us, so our wedding was a small one. Just immediate family. We Honeymooned in the Bahamas and had a great time at the Atlantis Hotel and water park. I went on the Leap of Faith waterslide, which is about a ten-story drop. You reach terminal velocity almost immediately! It's a lot of fun.

Upon our return, I started my new job as a teacher of Adult Education. My students consist of dropouts and people who are looking to acquire job skills or to improve their English. I start work at 7:00 AM, and work until after 3:00. There's about twenty full-time teachers at the school, and we all help each other. The work is hard, but I've never felt so fulfilled before. I'm literally smiling everyday as I go to work!

Sadly, we had a tragedy: our house was robbed three months ago. the burglars smashed their way through our patio door and stole most of our valuables. The thieves made off with jewelry, mostly, although they stole an entire safe of mine which contained mostly personal papers. I was in shock for hours. Our neighbors helped cover the shattered door, and the following day we got the house wired with an alarm. Unfortunately, the thieves were never caught. On the plus side, we became closer to our neighbors as a result of this debacle.

My wife and I are avid hikers. Almost every weekend we're tackling a new trail someplace. I'm wearing out hiking boots pretty quickly, but we're both enjoying ourselves tremendously. Next summer we're planning on traveling again. I'd like to go to Europe, but my wife has her heart set on Hawaii. We'll have to compromise on someplace. No word yet on where!

The new year promises to bring more changes. It'll be interesting to see what it will be.

Hope all of you are doing well. I've told my wife about USM, and about the live get-together we had five years ago. She was amazed at that. Hope we can have another one sometime, and I can introduce you all to my new better half!

Best wishes,

Arion

Life does have many obstacles as you listed here, but I am happy to see you moving through them with grace. Keep up the hard work.

Date: 11/12/2017 12:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 998    It does sound like this past year has been quite full for you and your Kellie. Glad to know that you figured out what you were allergic to. Unusual item, and I have never heard of another person with that kind of problem with the leafy green. I too use it everyday in a huge smoothie I blend up for George and I. My Vitamix has the 64 ounce container and 60 ounces usually has at least 12 different fruits and veggies in it, along with protein powder and my homemade Kambucha.

So sad to hear of the break in. It is hard to understand the mental issues with people who would take things that do not belong to themselves. Most of us are taught much better than that .

I would absolutely love to meet your wife. If we can plan another get together that would be awesome.

I believe that when something bad happens there is always something good that comes out of it, The shocking robbery which I hope KARMA bites them, at least something good did come out of such a terrible think such as getting close to your neighbours. I wish you and your loved ones a blessed life.
