That is the reason that the majority of us will always stay or return back to USM. It has always had such a special serenity about the place where mostly everyone can get along in an honest and open way. You are right, you just can't find that on other websites. Thank you for posting this Tina. |

I just don't really understand why people have to be so horrible to each other on the other sites. It seems that they take out their hatred on everyone for no reason at all. I like to watch music videos of all kinds of musical styles and I dare not read the comments below since they can be so mean over nothing. I'm so glad you really liked this community so much Tina. Yes, respect and compassion is abundant here and it is not fake. It is the way anyone would want to be treated no matter where they are in this world. Imagine standing in line at a bank, or shopping at a bakery and having someone come up to you and start cursing and making fun of your hair or clothing ... it just wouldn't be tolerated. I'm so glad our members here understand how to treat one another. Respect is the word that describes it, even if there is a difference of opinion. |

I’m sorry that you were subjected to such behavior. I find it quite shocking, incredulous when I read some of the off the wall comments from people on the internet especially on facebook. Especially when others do not agree with their opinions, whether it’s politics to religion or in your case Your career choice and methods of teaching. USM since joining the community has been and will always be my favorite website & my favorite people., and I’m sure not going to waste my time on sites where there is filthy language or people deeply insulting others-----I’ve wanted to start an account with reddit but still haven’t yet. Maybe I won’t since I’m learning that some people are extremely rude there. What is the point in mistreating others. I’m not sure what others think they might gain by being mean—spirited toward others’ It’s a total waste of time and energy. It’s not even good for your health to be angry and mean toward others. It sounds like you have a very rewarding career & I’m very happy for you. I wouldn’t let what others say get to you, like water off a duck’s back, eh? I went to a wal mart earlier (yesterday now). When I walked in, I noticed people turning around staring at me---------I thought to myself, is there egg on my head on my face, what’s the deal? They weren’t even friendly even though I spoke to the majority standing in the lawn and garden check out line-----I thought to myself, “ I know it’s not Monday!” lol but sometimes people can be rude for no apparent reason. I should have started singing & humming my best rendition of Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” That would have gave them Something to really talk about! Keep Smiling & continue being “Wonderful You!” It’s awesome to see you back here at our USMLand  Blessings!~ T/C |
Date: 8/2/2017 7:28:00 AM From Authorid: 21903 That's the truth! No one here was ever that nasty to me...even when I was an overly dramatic teen posting dumb drama! I see it every day: on FB I follow a couple of local news stations. I constantly slap my head at the ignorance I see on those posts, but I bite my tongue. A lot of people aren't that way and are downright hateful. I've seen comments going as far as suggesting someone kill themselves because they are "so dumb" or whatever. Its awful! I don't know why people can't just behave themselves online. Behave like you are looking someone in the face talking to them. It's amazing the nerve people have simply because of the screen in front of them. |

Thanks for the thoughts everyone! I appreciate your input. I love sharing my political, theological, and philosophical beliefs with others. I'm always looking to start a conversation but it seems every time I do it devolves into name calling, insults, and hostility. The only place where I've been able to share my thoughts freely is here. Like FreckleFace said, even when I was posting the most inane and immature drama on here, people attempted to be helpful and trust me, I posted some doozies. :P Ky-Bluebird I never understood the point of mistreating others either. I do sometimes get riled up when people post prejudiced things online but I try to keep a calm demeanor while still expressing my viewpoint. You don't get someone to engage in conversation by being terrible to them. It just makes them not even want to entertain your view point. I had a composition and rhetoric college class last term. A big part of it was based on effective argumentation and communication. I stressed that the purpose of a good argument or debate shouldn't be to beat your opponent down. The aim should be for each person to come away with something even if it's nothing more than just a better understanding of another person's way of thinking. |

Date: 8/24/2017 3:49:00 PM From Authorid: 42945 You can go to a lot of places on the internet and find hatred, nastiness and downright rudeness but at least you can come here and be treated with respect..and besides those points I've listed would definitely not be tolerated.. |
