In October 2009, my mother's best friend and my "second mom", Lydia, passed away suddenly at the age of 51. It was unexpected and heartbreaking, and I think about her everyday. One day earlier this year, my mother and I were talking about her and reminiscing about how sweet she was. My mom said she thought Lydia was a better person than she. Right as I was going to say they both were equally good people, we both heard a knocking sound on the corner of the kitchen counter we were standing by. There was nothing there, nothing that fell or anything of the sort. We looked at each other and smiled, and I jokingly said, "Maybe she's agreeing with you!"
Lydia's daughter Christina and granddaughters (one was 6 at the time and the other about 7 months) came over another night and we all sat in the living room talking. The 7-month-old, according to Christina, will sometimes look at Lydia's picture on their wall at home and point and giggle happily. When they were over, she did the exact same thing while looking into our dining room. The room was dimly lit and there was seemingly nothing going on where she was pointing but there she was, pointing and smiling and giggling.
That same night I had the one and only dream of Lydia I've ever had. She smiled at me and only said one thing to me, which was about how hard it was to Facebook from Heaven! Too funny!
I haven't encountered her in my dreams anymore, but I hope I do. I know she's still around and she watches over me. ♥
