My mom took all of us out Saturday to a restaurant called Fisherman's Market, just about all kinds of seafood there, I got frog legs because I LOVE those, and it's the one time of the year I get to eat them LOL So today, I planned on sleeping in and just lounging about but that was cut short when at 8 a.m. sharp I heard a LOUD chainsaw right outside my window. It was one of those huge Asplundh tree cutters, they were cutting right-of-way for the power lines. It went on alllllll day long. My boys came to me and wished me a Happy Birthday, but my fiance' said nothing. I don't really look for attention or presents on my birthday, but I didn't think a simple "Happy Birthday" was too much to ask.
So I waited and waited all day. Finally I left and took Ryan to the dentist (he's got to see a prosthodontist, he needs partial dentures, hereditary condition where both him and Jacob are missing adult teeth). Jacob asked him while I was gone if he knew what day it was, and he said yes. Ok so maybe he's just not the type to celebrate birthdays, but he didn't let anyone forget his.
We got back home, and I heard Ryan whisper to him "Are you going to tell her happy birthday?" and Jacob said out loud "The least you could do is say happy birthday." I didn't want him saying it just because the kids prompted him, and he told them to stay out of his business. I told the kids to just leave it alone and go eat, and went on like nothing happened.
Checked FB, and he left me a message on FB. Gee. I said "FB? Really?" Now this is also a man who will randomly leave me messages on my wall saying "I love you baby" and stuff, or if he knows I'm ill or stressed out about something, he leaves me encouraging and supportive comments there.
He came to me and hugged me and said he felt bad because he couldn't even get me a card, much less a present. I can always tell when he's serious because he says it in a whispery voice with his arms around me.
So really I had a decent birthday so far, my mom is coming by after work tonight to hopefully bring me part of the boys' Christmas present. A few months ago, I found some really cheap mp3 players at Wal-Mart and got the boys each one. Well, somewhere in the move, someone either stole them, or they're lost in a myriad of boxes. I doubt the latter because Billy (my fiance'> spent ALL NIGHT 2 nights ago searching through every single nit-picking box we have left in this house, and they're simply not there. That was all I had gotten them for Christmas, so I've been frantic and depressed. I would hate to think that someone came into our house while we were gone and stole them, or that they got stolen during the packing/moving (we had 2 people that packed our old house for us). I can't afford to replace them, so my mom said she was going to look at Wal-Mart and see if they still had them (I called, they do) and try to get them.
In reflection, things could be a lot worse. We have a roof over our head, we have food, we now have heat as of today (yes we've been without heat except for 2 space heaters we had to keep moving through the house to warm it up). I never expected to live to see 25-30, let alone 41. So I do have a lot of things to be thankful for. My kids are at the ages (and hopefully a reflection of their upbringing) that they understand Christmas isn't about presents, even though I know they get excited about unwrapping things on Christmas morning.
Jacob asked me "Are we having a cake for your birthday?" I laughed and said "I'm not buying my own birthday cake baby, and adults don't usually get birthday cakes."
Given that my FB has been blowing up since early this morning, I do feel special :)
So I had a true "bipolar birthday" LOL but all in all it's been decent...
Update: Billy was gone for a little while, said he had to go to a friend's house about doing some work for them. No problem, I'm friends with her too,we text a lot, she's known him for 10 years, nothing to worry about there. He comes back with a card, and tells me to close my eyes. I started giggling and felt him doing something with my wrist. Finally he let me open my eyes and there is this STUNNING sapphire and diamond bracelet (and yes, it looks VERY real, I'm pretty darned good at spotting real from costume) on my wrist. All he would say is "Don't worry about the cost, I got friends and I got a lot of work to do." He never ceases to amaze me!!!
