(We're doing a unit on conspiracies in my Creative Writing class at school. This is only my page-long proposal--the actual thing is going to be anywhere from ten to fifteen pages! Yowza! I just thought I might share my proposal with you all. I'm sorry I didn't save my bibliography from this sucker. Major regrets on that one. It's not very long or interesting, but I guess it could make for an interesting I-don't-have-anything-else-to-do read.) Dulce, New Mexico is a very small town (with a population hovering around 900) with a little-known secret. Right under Dulce's small town charm is a secret that lies directly beneath the town itself: a biogenetic laboratory designed specifically for the purpose of performing unethical experiments on both humans and animals. That's not even the extent of the bizarreness of these underground laboratories: it is a project done in a partnership between the United States government and reptilian aliens. The laboratory itself is just under the Archuleta Mesa, just barely north of Dulce itself. I want to base my research on Dulce because, first of all, it seems plausible that this would be a place for the government to plant a base, and the most horrific of things could be done underneath such a sleepy, nondescript small town. The mystery of aliens is always a fascinating subject, and being so close to us--a six- or seven-hour drive from Denver at most--of course I'd be interested even to the point of being cautious. While some of the claims are admittedly outlandish, I really don't believe that we should ignore any claim or any shred of evidence, no matter how bizarre or ridiculous-sounding it might happen to be. The small town is just five miles south of the Colorado border, although being so small and nondescript, it would make a supreme place for government action due to its quiet barrenness. Dulce is not home to much, only a few stores and just one major motel, since it is not a popular tourist attraction and there isn't much to draw someone to live there, other than the sleepy, tired small-town charm that Dulce could boast (but doesn't). The Archuleta Mesa, under which the actual base is said to be located, is ideal for something so secretive due to its inaccessibility since there are few roads leading out around it and only few would be so dedicated as to hike out there themselves to investigate in vain. With all of the controversy surrounding the "conspiracies" at the Denver International Airport, much of the attention of conspiracy theorists and thrill-seekers is drawn away from the mysteries at Dulce to the other government-based rumors so nearby. There are tunnels leading out from the main laboratory to other even lesser-known nearby bases. The government base under Dulce is said to have seven known levels, the top two being very mundane The evidence of Dulce's dark secret is all there, but the pieces don't quite fit together. There are reports of mutilation of farm animals (cows, in particular) in pastures peppered around Dulce. In the mid- to late '70s, reports of cattle mutilation began to spring up in the areas around Dulce. Because of an assortment of claimed UFO sightings around Dulce, some investigators began to attribute the mutilations to aliens. While this bit of evidence sounds as though it would come out of a bad 1960's-era "It Came From Outer Space!" movie, it shouldn't be ruled out, labeled as gibberish from the paranoid and the mentally unwell. Many people report having been abducted for some time, or loved ones having been abducted, although nothing can be proven for sure. While many of their singular reports match up with the others, they will not be acknowledged, and, like many other claims on alien abduction, will be passed off as recollections of very realistic dreams. The aliens, often described as being either small and grey or reptilian, are said to harbor in Dulce, New Mexico, but there's really no true way for us to know unless someone comes forward with hard evidence. How it changed my life:Well, I'm doing ten pages on this sucker. That's probably going to be a little bit of a life-changer for me.
