WHAT DID YOU DO?............ReleaseMe

On Thanksgiving I spent a lot of time cooking and preparing our "dinner", which we really eat throughout the day. I made turkey, homemade mashed potatoes, homemade green bean casserole, and homemade sweet potato casserole (This was a new dish for me, and it turned out to be really good), stuffing from a mix lol, cranberry sauce from a can (next year I'm trying my hand at making homemade), crescent rolls from a can, and a store bought pumpkin pie (that still took over an hour to cook). Everything turned out really well. We ate off and on all day, and of course had the parade on tv. Later I straightened up a bit and watched a movie called Stakeland, which is a low budget vampire movie. Low budget or not, I thought it was better than Breaking Dawn, which I grew very bored with less than halfway through. Overall, it was a nice relaxing day for both myself and the kids.

So what did everyone do for Thanksgiving? What did you have? Do you have any traditions that you do with you family every year?

Date: 11/25/2011 1:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 27705    The hubby and I stayed home this year just us, the dog and cat for Thanksgiving. We spent the morning just getting things done around the house like any other day then we started to cook in the afternoon. We only had a 2 lb. turkey so it didn't take long to cook. We also had homemade mashed potatoes, corn, carrots, crescent rolls, and stuffing for dinner. It was delicious!!! And we had cookies that I baked and ice cream cake for dessert.

It was actually really nice to not have to worry about traveling, although we did miss seeing our family.

Date: 11/25/2011 2:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 23075    Our thanksgiving was back in Oct. It was our first with my brother, in 16 years. We caught up on a lot of things. I did the turkey, homemade cranberry sauce, taters, etc etc etc. It was a feast. We had our dinner around 2 and then we just picked the rest of the day into the evening.
Date: 11/25/2011 2:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 998    I usually make a ton of homemade dishes and goodies for Thanksgiving. Homemade bread and rolls/cranberry relish/mashed yukon gold potatoes/sweet potato casserole/fresh roasted turkey and stuffing.

But this year after I made my cranberry relish last week, my daughter invited us out to dinner. A local yummy steak house was offering Thanksgiving dinner for 6 at a really Excellent price with everything included. So we spent a wonderfully relaxing time allowing our waitress to do all the running and serving. The food was the best we have ever had at that restaurant and someone else gets to clean all the dishes ... yay !!! I hope ya'll had a great day full of thanks and good food Thank you Release Me for sharing your holiday with us

It was almost an intimate Thanksgiving. We had turkey, smoked ham, sweet potatos, mashed potatos, green pea salad which is EXCELLENT and CHOCOLATE PECAN PIE! I loved it. G.

Ginger that sounds like a good idea. I might try that one year. CP I've never heard of Green pea salad. I'm going to look that up.

Date: 11/25/2011 3:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Hey there, Release Me! Sounds like you had a nice holiday. Sangelina and I prepared just about everything the day before. This year, I tried a little something different with our turkey. I partially de-boned it. Actually, I just cut out the backbone and kept the loose skin, filled it up with our veggies, butter, seasoning, etc. I put the bird in a browning bag, breast side down and let it set overnight. On Thanksgiving, I flipped the turkey over and cooked it for about three hours. Came out great! Really moist and tasty. We also had fruit salad, cornbread dressing, mixed vegetables, dinner rolls, chocolate cake and pomegranete/vodka martinis. Yummy! Everyone made it except my son, who had to work. We sent plenty food for him, though. Thanks for sharing with us, lady. Write on.....

Date: 11/26/2011 8:09:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 28848    Keeks and Nani, I pretty much did the same lol. And Kronk that all sounds so good. I want to try one of those pomegranete/vodka martinis.
Date: 11/26/2011 10:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 11097    This year I had Thanksgiving with my family at my house with everyone and my boyfriend. My dad did most of the cooking (turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and I made carrots with honey, lemon, and parsley- green beans with garlic and olive oil- and sweet potato casserole with pecans! Me, my little sister, and boyfriend watched the parade and helped to cook and prepare dinner and for a tradition we also say a prayer before we eat and tell what we are thankful for.
After that, my boyfriend, little sister, and I drove to NJ to go to my boyfriend's aunt house for a second Thanksgiving dinner which was delicious and a lot of fun. I got to see my little niece who adores my sister and see my "other" family.

Nice post and thank you for sharing your holiday with us all

Date: 11/26/2011 3:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 52489    My sisters, their husbands, and their kids all went to my parents house, and I joined them there. Thanksgiving is a Potluck affair, with each family bringing something to contribute to the event; my mom did the turkey, my eldest sister brought a couple of casseroles; my second sister brought several of her famous pies. I contributed a HUGE Mediterranean Salad. Although one of my brothers-in-law is a Vegan, he doesn't push his views on anyone--we just have to have enough greens for him to graze on, and that was my responsibility.

After supper, we all participated in the cleanup, and either talked, played games, or watched football. After that, we went on a walk, came back, and had several helpings of pie.
