Have you noticed the seasons are off by a month? SmoknJoe

My crowd was discussing this today at dinner Sunday 12-05-10. I know family discussion is a lost artform but we do practice it alot at my humble abode. But we were discussing that if you hear thunder in the first 15 days of December that you will have snow in or around Christmas. That led to the weather patterns being off by a month.

In North Carolina we now get the "April showers" in May and the "May flowers" are now in June. July is normally a hot month but the last several years August is now the hottest months. I myself have noticed that nearly about every Saturday during the spring and summer it seems to rain. My grandmother always planted her garden on Febuary 14th. And the stuff came up and grew. Now I have to wait till March 14th for mine to do any good.

I still have grapes on my grapevine. Green leaves and here it is December. The final leaves have just fallen from my pecans due to our first frost of the winter four days ago and a mild winter storm. Pears are still hanging on a couple of trees in the orchard. A few lingering mosquitoes and flies lurking about.

When I was younger you didnt see this then. Winter was looked forwards to. No skeeters or flies. Leaves being raked up a week or so before Thanksgiving. Spot runs in October (saltwater fish). That meant a weeks vacation at the beachhouse back then. The last eight years we have went and came back with nearly empty pockets from the trip. No fish, poor fish runs and above all little money.

I know global warming is the cause and this is the effects. Seems we need to move the calender ahead though by one month so we can get back on

So what diffrences have you noticed? You never know what you type today could be reviewed by someone twenty to a hundred years from now and used as a timeline or basis for what started or what was noticed. Or maybe you yourself will someday revied this old post and say.... "did I type that? or I noticed that then"

Type it in compare notes and it may help out in the future. I wonder what other changes people have noticed.

Date: 12/5/2010 7:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 63026    ive noticed this for a few years now. Although I must say leaves actually changed colors in late september this year.

Its actually pretty cold right now were actually having January like temps in the high 20's as highs and lows close to 10 degrees.

we had 6.94 inches of rain last month, and up to that point we were in a severe drought(we were below 9 inches below normal for the year).
And half of that 6.94 fell on the last day of November with 3.50 inches of rain for the day.

And just this past weekend we had 2-3 inches of snow after temperatures were in the 60's just a few days ago.

Date: 12/5/2010 10:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 3835    I have noticed weather changes almost 5 years ago.. it just may keep on changing, and soon we will have to alternate what crops are grown where.. that is my opinion. We usually have a great deal of snow about this time in WI, but have just 6 inches. Areas that usually do not get much snow, if any at all, are getting it, Lol.. I have believed seasons are changing for nearly 5 years now.. it has taken this long for others to see it I suppose...
Date: 12/6/2010 12:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 63962    I hope that the seasons changing like this doesn't start screwing things up, and making things worse and worse! As in, causing famines, etc!
Date: 12/6/2010 1:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 8024    the weather is already causing God-aweful things..there are people starving right now..and are in desparate need of water..c
Date: 12/6/2010 2:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 37150    I think here in Southern California it wasn't as hot as it's been (we had one record-breaking heat day) this summer and we've been getting rain every weekend for like 3 weeks now. But, when it used to rain when I was younger, like 10+ years ago it rained a lot heavier.
Date: 12/6/2010 2:20:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 54570    That was something my sis in law pointed out. She said it seemed like five years to her too
Date: 12/6/2010 7:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 44960    Oh you think the weatherz changin' now, just wait till 2012 gets here!!
Date: 12/6/2010 8:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 60992    I've noticed the weather changes for more then a couple of yrs. Weather in Vancouver during summer is around 28. It started dropping off to 23 and 25C. But now in the past two yrs we've had long heat waves of 30C. Last winter in Vancouver was horrible. I LOVE winter, and it never got below 5C it was just.. No. Winter needs to be cold, it must be atleast 0C for it to be a good winter. Now I'm in Sask living in -20. Sask had a horrible summer from what I've heard. It rained ALOT and alot of thunderstorms didn't heat up very well either.
Date: 12/7/2010 9:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 22852    @}~~ You still have grapes on the vine? Where are you, I will come pick them, didn't have any good purple grapes grow by me this year, which means no good grape jam I am near Boone/Blowing Rock in NC
Date: 12/7/2010 3:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 19092    Aint been the same here (Spokane) since Mt. Saint Helens blew here top in 1980...
Date: 12/8/2010 11:31:00 AM  From Authorid: 46486    I've noticed it myself, especially up herein VT, with it being "winter" we usually have some snow by now.. but nope clear as day and it's really sunny outside.
Date: 9/11/2011 5:32:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 54570    And hey just to add to the confusion. Three different snowfalls. At least 4 to 8 inches each. spaced about a week and a half apart. Long time to add this but they did occur January and part of febuary. Most snow we have had in a loooong time. Last time we had good snow was back in 1983 I think.
Date: 9/11/2011 5:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 64819    There was the snow fall of 89 I think it was.
Date: 9/25/2011 6:30:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 54570    Here it is 9-25-11 and its 80 degrees. Last weekend it was down in the upper 60's and it felt good. Rainfall has picked up a lot from the summer but most of these are misting rains. and dont last long at all. 30-45 mins total.
