I have a lot of feelings about this whole situation. I am from New York, about a hour from Manhattan, and my father is a retired FDNY. When I first heard about the mosque near ground zero I wasn't sure how to feel... and I've heard all the arguments and I am still not sure how to feel. Not because I am against Islam or I am not tolerant or that I think Islam had anything to do with the people who are responsible for 9/11... I just keep thinking about the people that were killed and think we need to focus more on a memorial and how to bring this country back together again before there is a holy war right here in America. I think the media gave this man way to much attention. He is using 9/11 to spread his hatred of Islam and that's disgusting. He is giving a bad name to Christians as well as America and he is spreading hate which is a complete contradiction to Christianity. If he was so against Islam, then spread your faith in love and light. Not by burning books. If he was so upset about the mosque be diplomatic. We just keep feeding fuel to a fire that is eventually going to explode into a full rage and we certainly don't need that. Thanks for listening to me opinion. |

Date: 9/12/2010 8:45:00 AM From Authorid: 64702 Burning a Kuran is as much as burning a Bible just because it's not written in YOUR language. The only time acceptable (I just assume it's the same with Islam) is like with the flag, when it is totally worn out beyond use. If he wanted to burn something worthwhile, why didn't he make it an image of Bin Laden! Since he's an outcast with the Church of Islam anyway too(he's been like excommunicated you might say) and the above would inticipate just where his soul is headed of that poor excuse of a human being. As long as this guy gets attention he will do bad things. People should also realize that God is not the book and the book is not God it's just paper. There will always be people that cause trouble for the attention. |

I think it says something more about the people protesting and rioting than the actual person, leading a congregation of 30, who was going to burn the korans. To say that there is an over reaction is putting it mildly. But that's what I've come to expect from 'moderate' muslims. It's nice to see liberals take a sudden interest in not trashing a religion though. |

If it were not for media attention and politically correct hysteria no one outside of his immediate area and 40 or so followers would have been affected or even known it was taking place. People are always looking for some reason to get all self righteous. |
Date: 9/13/2010 9:09:00 AM From Authorid: 19613 The pastor and the anti-mosque protestors should be condemned for trying to bully the Imam in New York to moving the center, the Imam should be condemned for trying to bully people by suggesting that not building the centre would give rise to anti-American sentiment, but most of all the media should be condemned for not bothering to expose the fact that the pastor’s actions are only generating headlines because people are afraid of violent Muslim retaliation. |

I don't know anyone that is afraid of a violent Muslim reaction. I believe anyone with a grasp of reality expects as much. Of course the news will show a scintilla, or less, of said reactions. Afterall, there's nothing new to show . . . God Bless. |

“I don't know anyone that is afraid of a violent Muslim reaction.” You could start with the vast majority of Western media outlets which refused to reprint pictures of Mohammed in recent times, or with all the various politicians who came out pleading with Jones and condemning the burning of the Koran. How many of them felt the need to comment when PZ Myers stabbed a consecrated communion wafer with a rusty nail? |

Like I said, I don't know anyone that is afraid. God Bless. |
