I don't think there is anything worse than not being able to sleep...I've had nights like that and have got out of bed and watched movies and ended up going back to bed at the breaking of dawn..and felt like a zombie all day..I can cope along like that for quite some time and then I do take a sleeping pill, have a good nights sleep and won't take another one for months. I don't drink tea or coffee or coke after 8pm at night and that helps a little...sorry that I can't offer any advice on how to overcome it but know that I understand how you feel..*hugs* |

Thanks Zema. I never did lay down again or go back to sleep. I guess I'm up for the rest of the day now. Just sitting here drinking coffee. |

Hey there, lady. I have sleep problems, myself. I've gone the prescription route. I don't like those at all. Leaves me feeling all thick-headed when I do wake up and also they just don't work sometimes, or seem to aggrevate the insomnia. Of all the over the counter sleep aides, I have had the most success with Ibuprofen PM. (equate/walmart brand of) If I take one and go to bed within about an half hour, I'm usually good for about six hours of uninterrupted sleep. (and, as we insomniacs know, six hours is a really good amount of sleep) Sweet dreams to you, Release Me. |

As an accomplished sleeper I can't imagine what it must be like to have insomnia. My oldest daughter suffers from it. She tried ambien and it caused her to have hallucinations. I've told her for a long time to cut out the high caffeine energy beverages that she drinks early in the day. She finally stopped all caffeine several months ago, began exercising and eating more healthy meals and she has been sleeping much better. |

I hope you get some sleep soon! I know how hard it can be to work/do you required tasks, after not getting any sleep - or less than what you need. I hope you find something that works soon. Best of luck |

I too have insomnia hon and have had it for over 12 years. Benadral also give me the restless leg thing as you just had. I HATE that as it does not matter how sleepy you are you can't sleep because of it. I take an amitripoline at night because I do not do sleep aids. I really take it for my neck, the way I was born, I get really bad headachs unless my neck is relaxed. But this also helps me to sleep. I think, well I KNOW as for me, the reason I have the insomnia is that my stupid brain will not shut down, it constantly thinks of the past, the present, the future, so I end up watching tv or reading until the book falls out of my hands. Good luck, oh and nightquil did the same thing as far as restless leg thing. |

Hi Release Me, I used to suffer from insomnia and I feel your pain. I still do sometimes. It comes and goes now but when I am having an "episode" of insomnia it lasts for a while and I am left staying up till 3 or 4am until I finally pass out from exhaustion and wake up a few hours later. I used to hate laying there thinking and tossing and turning and not being able to get comfortable. Lately I have been having trouble getting to sleep. I never took medication for it because I am allergic to certain allergy/cold medications that are similar to sleeping medication. I would try not having caffeine after 4/5pm and having herbal tea (for sleep) try a bath, and trying reading before you go to bed. I wish you a good nights sleep and I hope you feel better. |
