Date: 3/13/2010 8:29:00 AM From Authorid: 19613 he second sentence of your post is untrue, which is kind of ironic. |
Date: 3/13/2010 8:32:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876 I didn't want to say girlfriend because we are not romantically involved. That is the second sentence. |

But hey, since I don’t think you value my opinion on the matter, I guess I’ll have to just agree with what Andy Rooney actually said in 2003: “Some of the remarks are viciously racist and the spirit of the thing is nasty, mean and totally inconsistent with my philosophy of life.” And again in 2005: “there’s a collection of racist and sexist remarks on the internet under a picture of me…if I could find the person who did write it using my name I would sue him.” And again in 2006: “I hate the fact that people think I’ve been writing these things…That’s hurtful to me.” |
Date: 3/13/2010 8:43:00 AM From Authorid: 19613 (By second sentence I meant "Here is a quote from Andy Rooney in one of his commentaries recently". The piece is a version of a screed which has been circulating for about seven years and was not written by Andy Rooney (see above). While that doesn't change the substance of the claims, my feelings on the content are the same as his. |
Date: 3/13/2010 9:00:00 AM From Authorid: 47218 Andy Rooney never said this. |

Well, you could very well be right, MOA said he heard it somewhere and the only way I know it is through someone else. That is something that would make sense since he is a well known commentator for many years. Regardless, I still say it's spot on.The racist debate cuts both ways. It is a sensitive subject and just like gender bias gets a whole lot of over reaction which devalues legitimate hate crime. |
Date: 3/13/2010 9:07:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876 oh and now get your the distortion is ironic, DP..hey, I don't claim to know it all, even though ya'll seem to think my attitude is that way. |
Date: 3/13/2010 9:15:00 AM From Authorid: 19613 I think you're wrong about a lot of things, to be perfectly honest, but I don't detect any malice behind it. I think everyone benefits from discussion and debate when it's entered into with honesty. I think a problem with the original post is that it touches upon too many issues to tackle at once. Why don't you pick one in particular you think is important and go from there? |

Here are Andy Rooney's actual words in response to this internet hoax: "About a year ago, I became aware of a more serious theft of my name and it is so hurtful to my reputation that it calls for legal action against the thief. Hundreds of people have written asking if I really wrote the 20 detestable remarks under my name that have had such wide circulation on the internet. Some of the remarks, which I will not repeat here, are viciously racist, and the spirit of the whole thing is nasty, mean and totally inconsistent with my philosophy of life. It is apparent that the list of comments has been read by hundreds of thousands of Americans, many of who must belief that it accurately represents opinions of mine that I don’t dare express in my column or on television. It is seriously damaging my reputation." |

i don't care who wrote it. i happen to agree with most of it. why should i have to press one to speak english? i don't have the slightest bit of a problem with anyone who LEGALLY wants to live in this country but they should have to speak OUR language. and the united negro college fund? to me that is racist and if there were a united white fund or united italian or mexican or any other there would be you know what hitting the fan. there is a lack of common sense in this country and most of that came about at the same time political correctness came about. |
Date: 3/13/2010 10:21:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876 Glad someone stepped up to the plate, thanks Moma Bug. |
Date: 3/13/2010 10:36:00 AM From Authorid: 22852 @}~~ Don't care who wrote it, I like it and I agree with it.. This part was said by Morgan Freeman... I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America... I watched him in an interview on TV and he was very upset, saying with the above things it causes more problems, he was asking people to just be people and stop putting a label on everything. I have to agree with that. |
Date: 3/13/2010 10:39:00 AM From Authorid: 22852 @}~~ Ohh and where I live, it is mostly white, country folk so when the majority of white men are arrested here it is because they are doing the crime. Makes no difference what, race or sex you are, if you do the crime and get caught so be it but don't whine about how you are "singled out". |

From Authorid: 4144
well that's just how i feel. and i don't really care if the USA has an 'official' language. when you come to this country and you can't speak english you need to learn. you make the choice to come here. learn the language. don't expect me to learn yours. i really not trying to be a butt but good Lord this is getting nuts. when are they going to change every street, highway and interstate sign to show everything for everybody? it's crazy and theres no sense in it. |
Date: 3/13/2010 9:03:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876 There has been a lot of sacrifices for this country but making English a second language isn't one of them. I know a lot of Hispanics who never learned and refuse to learn.it's their way of taking back this country for theirselves. They will flat out acknowledge it too. So Moma Bug is correct in her view to me. |
Date: 3/14/2010 10:09:00 AM From Authorid: 4144 when we were babies what language did our parents teach us? what did our grandparents teach them and so on? i don't have a beef with anybody. we are all human beings. i'm just sick and tired of having to press one for english. i'm tired of making a phone call about my dvd recorder or my video camera and having to speak to someone that i can't understand. it seems like 9 times out of 10 when you call an 800 number you have to speak to someone in another country. why are these jobs not in our country? |

I don't know if Andy Rooney said all that is here, or part of what's here, but I do know I've heard (and seen) him say some of these things. He's been commenting for decades now; I am pretty sure he's even changed his opinions on some of the things he has said in the past to what he thinks now. I have not always agreed with his points of view, but I certainly wouldn't want to keep him from having same. The gist of this post is this: Human Being = Human Being Once one puts a label on themselves or others, they have created an inequity; in other words the following equations are incorrect, mathematically speaking: African-American Human Being = Human Being Non-English Speaking Human Being = Human Being Gay Human Being = Human Being The only thing we are ALL equal in is that we are human being. If one wants to argue that they are not being treated equally due to their being African-American, Non-English Speaking, and/or Gay, then they are asking to be treated in a manner other than as an human being equal to any other human being. God Bless. |

What utter rubbish. So if Rosa Parks claims that she wasn’t being treated equally because she was black, she would be ‘asking to be treated in a manner other than as a human being equal to any other human being’ ? As for the matter of languages, as Nanaki pointed out, the U.S. does not have an official language. Why should an immigrant have to learn English simply because most people speak it? If an immigrant doesn’t want to learn the language most people speak, then that’s going to put them in a pretty awkward position regardless, since if they have no obligation to learn English, then you have no obligation to learn their language. |
Date: 3/14/2010 12:53:00 PM From Authorid: 30093 Moma Bug I agree with you entirely on the outsourcing of jobs. Ridiculous. |

i may have no obligation to learn their language but our wonderful PC government has decided that we have to label everything over and over in different languages so we don't offend anybody. so those of us that don't have bionic eyes can't even read the label or instructions we need. last week i went to sams club and bought a cannon camera. it's the huge kit so there's a lot of paperwork. but the same paperwork is in there in several different languages. no more trees for the tree huggers. let me go to mexico and scream discrimination because i can't read or understand something. lets see them label everything i may want in english just to please me. it's not going to happen. the USA has been pampering too many people for too long. it's like if you are born and raised here you don't count. |

am i missing something here? am i not being fair because i was born in america? because i speak english? because i don't have the time or desire to learn to speak spanish or indian or anything else? because i don't think the borders should be wide open and welcome anybody that want in no matter what their reason? am i not being fair because i get sick and tired of being taxed to death and tired of paying high insurance rates while others can be here, legal or not and have free health care? am i not being fair because i want jobs to stay in america? becuse almost everything i buy in america says made in china but when i have to call the 800 number i get to talk to somebody in india about it? wow......i am really a sorry excuse for a human and an american. |
Date: 3/14/2010 9:02:00 PM From Authorid: 30093 It's not fairness vs unfairness. I'm simply stating there is no official language in this country so complaining about it is going to do nothing. I personally don't care to waste 3 seconds of my time pressing the button "1" on my phone. Big deal. This country used to be a melting pot and now its citizens seem to be increasingly of the isolationist viewpoint. |
Date: 3/15/2010 4:55:00 AM
From Authorid: 2030
I think the official language should be the same as the declaration of independence and the Constitution which spells out and protects people rights to speak other languages. As for immigration, legal immigration is what this country was built on, welcome to all who follow the rules. But illegal is just that illegal. |
Date: 3/15/2010 7:44:00 AM From Authorid: 19613 No Moma Bug, you’re not being fair because you would want to make knowledge of English a condition of citizenship despite the fact that the US has no official language, that’s all. |
Date: 3/15/2010 8:21:00 AM From Authorid: 4144 maybe it needs to be made official. or would that be UN-PC? what about being fair to me? |
Date: 3/15/2010 10:42:00 AM From Authorid: 30093 Yeah, BCAR. I'm obviously not saying freely open the borders and let everyone run in, I just don't get the isolationist crap that so many people are going for these days. |

RE: Rosa Parks: THE ONLY REASON SHE NEEDED to protest being sent to the back of the bus was that that was not equal treatment to other human beings. God Bless. |
Date: 3/15/2010 3:33:00 PM From Authorid: 19613 She was not being treated equally because of the colour of her skin, so she rightfully complained. I don't see how it could be simpler. |
Date: 3/16/2010 11:27:00 AM
From Authorid: 11240
Much simpler (to simplify is a mathematical concept): She was not being treated equally because other human beings were being treated differently ("Difference" is also a mathematical term.) Period (aka a decimal point, to be consistent). God Bless. |
Date: 3/16/2010 11:41:00 AM From Authorid: 30093 I wish for once you could admit when you're wrong instead of doing things like that. |
Date: 3/16/2010 12:29:00 PM
From Authorid: 19613
That’s too simple. We treat people unequally all the time. Sometimes it is justified and sometimes it’s not. Whether it is justified or not will depend on two things: 1: Whatever principles of justice you are using. And 2: The reason for the discrimination in the case in question. Saying that Person X is being treated unequally because other people are being differently is merely tautological. |
Date: 3/16/2010 12:30:00 PM From Authorid: 19613 *being treated differently |
Date: 3/16/2010 12:41:00 PM
From Authorid: 11240
Why would I admit to being wrong if I am not wrong. YES, the reason she was treated differently was because of the color of her skin, but the REASON she should not be treated differently is because she is the same as others, i.e., a human being. THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS POST WHICH THE TWO OF YOU SEEM QUITE LOST IN ACKNOWLEDGING. God Bless. |
