My SuperBowl Sunday...in the ER! ~FieryMomOf2~

Sunday morning I woke up to get the kids ready for the Sunday School van to pick them up, we were going to a new church for Scout Sunday. 9:30 came and went, and no van. So we skipped Sunday school and just went to worship service at 11. On the way there, I felt like something got in my eye and had to have Jacob, my 10 y/o, guide me off the road and into the parking lot of a gas station so I could see what it was. I didn't see anything but the eye continued to bother me off and on the whole day.

I logged on to work, and after about an hour and a half, my eye was so bad I couldn't see the screen. It was red and raw. I told a supervisor what was going on, and he told me to go ahead and leave and go to the ER. So I called my mom and asked if she could take me since I really couldn't see.

They had a major crisis going on when we got there, so we settled in to wait. The waiting room was full of the patient's family, and apparently he didn't make it because they were all escorted to the back and all came out crying and bawling and left. It was getting close to kickoff time, so I asked the admit person on duty if I could change the channel to the Super Bowl. We sat there until they called me back, a good hour and a half, and finally I was called back.

Turned the game on in my room, and covered my left eye. Boy was it hard to control the whooping and hollering! The doctor came in finally and put some drops in my eyes to numb them, then left. More game, more cheering, and eventually he came back in and put this stuff in my eyes that made them absolutely glow fluorescent green/yellow under a black light. I tried to get my mom to take a picture, but the doctor said it wouldn't show up on a camera.

Apparently whatever was in my eye earlier yesterday gouged it pretty good and I got a nice little scratch on my eyeball. He washed both eyes out really good and gave me some ointment to put in there to avoid infection. The only problem is, when I put the ointment in, everything goes blurry and I can't really see that well.

Today it just feels a little irritated, but not too bad. I have to watch how I smoke so I don't get smoke in my eye.

That is SO not how I wanted to spend Super Bowl Sunday!! But at least I got to see the game, the calls were so busy when I left, I wouldn't have gotten to watch it anyway between calls.

So how was YOUR Superbowl Sunday?

My sunday was great it was my youngests 19th birthday and we just spent the day together, I made him his favorite meal of chicken and dumplings.. Yum, and we watched "Band of Brothers" all day and than switched to the super bowl. All in all it was a great day
Date: 2/8/2010 1:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 54444    SUPER -- great game too. I am a Colts fan but I didn't want to see a one sided game like I thought it was going to be. Instead it was an exciting game. I am glad New Orleans won because they played fantastic and deserved the win. Also I won $125 in the pool. It seemed like the Colts choked, but I have no idea why.
Date: 2/8/2010 2:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 62679    Oh poor thing! I can't stand anything eyeball related--of course I have no choice but to get over that since I have Glaucoma. I am just glad you didn't need surgery or anything--ick~

Date: 2/8/2010 6:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 28848    A kid in my son's class threw a pencil and scratched my son's eye a few years ago. Luckily, it wasn't anything that would cause permanent damage. He was given an antibiotic ointment to put in the eye for about two weeks to prevent infection. I remember him complaining that it made his vision blurry too lol. But all in all it healed with no permanent damage to his eye. Just keep using the ointment and in a few weeks you should be fine.
Date: 2/8/2010 10:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63201    Thanks everyone. No it wasn't my place of choice to watch the SB, but all in all I'm glad I at least got to see it! My eye was already feeling 100% better this morning and I didn't put the ointment in because I had to drive and couldn't do so with blurred vision. I am keeping it handy in case it happens again tho!
