A Chinese city has renamed a mountain after the blockbuster 3-D ‘AVATAR’.
‘AVATAR’ is already a runaway hit in USA – being on top at the Box Office for the sixth consecutive week. But the success of the sci-fi movie worldwide can be gauged by the most recent news that the Chinese city of Zhangjiajie has renamed a mountain after the blockbuster.
‘Avatar’ also set box office record in China until its 2-D run in the country was cut short.
The majestic peak in Hunan province in central China previously known as “Heaven and Earth Pillar” or “South Sky Pillar” has been officially renamed “Avatar Hallelujah Mountain,” the Zhangjiajie city government said in a statement.
The statement, posted on Monday on the government’s website, said the peak was believed to have inspired a floating mountain, one of the most dramatic images in the movie, set on fictional Pandora.
