A three panel judged ruled that ex Attorney General John Ashcroft can be sued by people wrongfuly detained as "material witnesses" during 2003 investigations.

Many people were rounded up and held without bail by bending the material witness statuate in federal law.A review is forthcoming and if the review supports the Appeals Court Ruling. Ashcroft must submit a deposition explaining his actions.Government officials and ex-oficials are very worried about this prospect because of a immunity from prosecution law that protects them from lawsuits during their actions as a public official for reasons of National Security.

The above link will tell more about he case. One person was imprisoned for 15 months during these "investigations", even if the recommendation review doesn't support, thousands of documents must be released as disclosure is must for the litigation.Security agencies are worried that these documents will reveal too much and "make the U.S. vulnerable to Terrorists".

What a crock, in the guise of national security the Justice Department, Department of Defense and Homeland Security Agencies think that they have Carte Blanche to do whatever they want. That is like Shredding the Constitution of the United States!

Just give a terrorist cell guns send them to a mall or other tourist location and see how much carnage they could do.

And I know of good secluded spots in 2 states of train tracks where you can blow up a passing train without being detected.

I mean look we have Americans Killing americans with guns, knives, and everything else...We don't need terrorits to cause terror in our cities.

Date: 9/10/2009 9:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    whew! when you're wrong, you're wrong, not your fault since the article was totally inaccurate. What actually happened with the ruling was that the judges ruled that Ashcroft could be held personally liable IF the allegations proved true. They sent the case back to a lower court for a trial to determine whether the allegations were accurate. The LA times posted a correction to this as they reported it wrong as well (some might say they lied).
