Date: 7/16/2009 9:55:00 AM From Authorid: 48809 How terrible that such a thing should happen to someone that is trying to make things better for their country. I am ,and I think others too are so tired of all the murder and horrible other things that seem to go on for ever. There are so many that are only interested in what they want for themselves...such as money and power etc. What a shame! |

Date: 7/17/2009 12:03:00 PM From Authorid: 15070 Despite the horror of the story, the fact that it is even reported in the West, complete with details, shows progress from the days when a story like this would have been hush'd-up. She was not "disappeared". She was allowed to be found. It could be a warning to others, or it could indicate that crimes like this will not be tolerated. Remember, back-in-the-day, people would be sent on "vacations", from which they never returned. It is very sad. However, as harsh as it sounds, Ms. Estimorova knew the risks. She did not ask for her death, but she had to have know the possible cost of her actions. |
Date: 7/17/2009 12:11:00 PM From Authorid: 15070 I applaud her wanting to fight for Human Rights. The paid the ultimate price, and now her daughter has lost her Mother. But she took on a corrupt leader, who is reported to have Kremlin support. And Chechnya can be a very violent place, as evidenced by the numerous kidnappings. At one point, she even left the area, and returned. It is a sad story. But I am afraid, the ending is not surprising. |
