I dont know. I am sure this kind of double standard still exists, specially with the younger crowd, but I have always chose who I had intamacy with and since I have been an adult, I live by my own set of morals. i am secure in my sexual nature and do not regret. I think when a person says no, that is it until SHE changes her mind. I could not be talked into something I didnt want to do..or lets say live with. but it does get annoying to be harrassed or begged. if you feel good about your actions, you do not feel shame when someone calls you something you know you are not. i think this is a matter of self-worth and self-esteem and also of maturity.  |

shai....you would give up on a possible relationship or whatever you want, whether it is sexual release or a partner because of what others will think? like I tell my preschoolers when they say others call them names. ' if (insert name here) calls you a car, are you a car? if he says your mom is a bug, is she a bug?' no! who cares what people think. there is never going to be a way to please everyone. you can only please yourself and try not to judge others. judgement is a weakness IMO |

there always has been a double standard when it comes to that stuff. if a guy gets around he's a stud. if a girl gets around shes a tramp. nobody is smart enough to realize if it wasn't for the tramps there would be no studs! i personally don't care how many partners a girl has. once she hits 18 she is free to do as she pleases. she knows what she is doing. what ticks me off is it seems girls are thinking they have to have sex at a younger age. there are 14 year olds out there having babies. of course the babies end up paying the price cause they are either not taken care of or they are dumped off on someone else so mommy can continue with her teen years.  |

It's pretty messed up. My daughter is 19, 20 at the end of this month and the last 3 guys she has gone out with wanted sex on the first date, she said no and was dumped. Some of the problem is that so many girls do have sex on the first date so why waste your time on a girl who won't give in? She has been dating a guy for a month and he seems really nice, hasn't insisted on sex, we met him yesterday.  |

This is a quandary that is faced by many people. If a person will only go out with you because you will have sex with them, they are not interested in you, they are interested in the sex. If a person is interested in you , they will respect your boundaries. With any luck, you will meet the person of your dreams at some point in your life. It's a lot easier to start a relationship with the person of your dreams if you don't have a lot of skeletons in your closet. That goes for both men and women. Society does have a dual view of sexuality... The stud/slut issue. However, my personal experience would tend to view the promiscuous members of society as less likely to be a viable long term mate. Once again, that is the same regardless of being a man or woman. So, it's a difficult path that people have to walk. They have to make decisions that will be best for them in the long run. But it's those pesky near term decisions that can have long lasting impacts. That's just my opinion.  |

It's that stupid double standard. If a girl is a virgin, she's a prude and won't date anyone. If she does sleep with a guy, she's dirty. If a guy is a virgin, he's uncool, but once he loses his virginity, he's the man. It's ridiculous.  |

I am not justifying this in any way but I took a psychology class and this seems to be linked to the idea that woman can only bear one child at a time therefore rendering her useless for procreation once she is pregnant..men on the other hand can leave their "seed" with many women at a time..  |

kelly, really? I find when I dont give in, they want me even more. I have had many a guy remain friends with me even after I told them there was no chance between us. I dont play games like some girls. the crap some girls play (the tease, the money...ect) are just as bad as what we face. I am not saying your daughter is one of these girls at all...she just livesa around a bunch of creeps |

I know there's pressure and this double standard exists, but as a woman I wouldn't worry about what others thought. It's no one elses business and it just seems having sex ruins a woman's reputation. In the military, circumstances are different/more difficult since military is seen as a man thing. You make good points here.  |

Yes its society that is jacked up and its only going to get worse. I really hate the one commerical for a date service that is against a good date service and in that commericial the man that comes to the girl with flowers is called a loser. Then in one it shows two couples dancing and one couple is making out on the dance floor so the girl from the other couple gets mad and walks off the floor because her *date* isn't trying to have sex right on the dance floor with her. I mean those commericals make it seem like if your not loose that your a loser. In one the girl asks the guy what his core values are in the beginning of the commerical and is of course the same girl as above on the dance floor. I hate that commerical simply because its teaching our young adults that having core values and morals is bad while fast sex is good.  |
