Update on ChiChi ~FieryMomOf2~

I just got off the phone with the vet. 6 hours in surgery, and she's in recovery. Her bladder had a small puncture but it wasn't shredded like she expected, so she was able to sew it back together. There was a small amount of urine leakage in the abdomen but they were able to flush it with an antibiotic wash. She was initially going to wait and see how she did with the first surgery before she went back in and did the hips and legs, but she was doing so well, she decided to go ahead and do the pins and wiring of the hips and legs. Everything is back together like it should be, and she's not out of the woods yet, but her vitals are really good. Her temp is a little low, but she feels like that's a result of the surgery.

She's also not eating but the vet said it could be due to the fact they're pushing so many IV fluids and feeding her via IV. She gave her a shot to increase her appetite, so we're going to see how it goes. She made homemade roast beef for ChiChi and she wouldn't eat it. That's the only thing we're worried about right now, but she's been through a lot of trauma both by being run over and with the surgery too, so that could be why she's not eating right now.

Thank you all so much for the prayers and candles, they're working! I cried myself to sleep last night, and asked God to take her home if He wanted her home, as I didn't feel like I could make that decision to put her down if it came to that. Apparently God isn't ready for her just yet, because she's alert and oriented and isn't in any pain.

Keep the prayers and whatever else coming, she still needs them to make a full recovery!

Thank you all so much

*hugs and love*

Melissa

Date: 6/6/2009 7:42:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63201    Thank you all so much! I certainly hope she continues to improve too, I've been worried sick about my little girl.
Date: 6/6/2009 7:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 1799    She might start eating when you get the chance to see her. Ask your vet if its possible for you to see her, even if she's in one of the recovery kennels because maybe she needs to see you to know you're still there and worrying about her, and she might eat for you.

Date: 6/7/2009 3:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 51876    She's alittle fighter and when I picked her up off the side of the street, I could tell the damage was severe and didn't know if she would make it but prayers and the soul of chi-chi have been strong and effective.I have really grown fond of her since I have been here and am so glad to know she could pull through.
We raced to the Vet's office and the speed in which wew got her there has been a major factor.
We should never stop giving 100% to our pets during a crisis. We had to give her a chance and if we would have waited in a helpless attitude she would have certainly have dies just from the shock.
Ryan prtted her there the whole way and he is a big lover of animals.I am going to do everything in my power to help him open a animal shelter because that's what he wants to do with his life. This experience will strengthen his resolve to never give up and to be there.
I agree we should go down and see her so she might eat.

Date: 6/7/2009 12:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 46527    Poor little thing, glad to hear the surgery went well.
Date: 6/7/2009 12:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 35178    Ask the vet if you can go visit her. My cat did the same thing when she was on the road to recovery. Everything was better but she wouldn't eat. They finally let me take her home and she ate like a pig. ChiChi could be doing the same thing.
Date: 6/7/2009 8:04:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63201    The vet just called me a little bit ago, her vitals are all real good, temperature and heart are stable, but she's still not eating...We're hoping that by going to see her tomorrow, she'll quit being depressed and eat some. She's still not out of the woods yet, if she'd just eat, things would look a lot better. I may ask if I can take her home tomorrow or Tuesday. Thanks so much for the ongoing prayers and thoughts. *hugs and love*
Date: 6/8/2009 6:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 24673    Wow! I've been away for a few days and didn't know about this--so very happy to hear all is going well. Boy, that's a lot of stressful worry, we love our animals so much.
