Anyways, I bought a guitar about a year ago, but I don't know how to play it. I would LOVE to learn though. I've tried learning thru online courses, but I don't understand at all. So i'm wondering if you have any tips, or an easy way I can learn? I've thought of selling it, but I don't have the heart to get rid of her, since she's so beautiful and i've even named her already.

Date: 5/20/2008 9:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    i used to play... though this was about 10-15 yrs ago i had lessons for about a year (first through school then private) hurt the fingers lol...i'm not much help BUT it does start with learning how to read music and i had a peice of tape on the backside of the neck to remind me wher emy thumb should always be lol
Date: 5/20/2008 9:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 26303    Have you tried looking in the yellow pages? Or contacting the schools in your area? They would know who might be able to teach you. Guitar teachers are everywhere. You should find one that suits your budget. You sound like you need to play, falling in love with a guitar and naming it sounds like a player to me. lol
Date: 5/20/2008 10:02:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 4887    Aussie, I found a place were they charge like $50 for lessons. I'm still debating if I should take the class or not. I prefer private lessons. But, don't think I could afford it.
Date: 5/20/2008 10:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 26303    Well, why not start off with the class, then you will know if you really want to learn or not. I say go for it!
Date: 5/20/2008 10:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    check out your local rec guide(they are usually put out by the pool/rec center in your area, or your local YMCA) i'm sure they offer lessons in there for a relatively affordable price for classes(though your not one on one you can still learn all the basics) your other option is post an ad on your local craigslist or a local university/college looking for a teacher with your listed price and an email addy.. i'm sure you'll get a few hits

Date: 5/21/2008 12:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 64593    Wow! That's a beautiful guitar. I play a tiny bit but my husband plays really well. He just got an account here but I don't think he has logged on yet. He may be of some help. Idk. ---Teal Dreams---
Date: 5/21/2008 5:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 56359    Such a beautiful guitar. I could never get rid of it, and I hope you don't either. There are online classes you can take. Some of them are free. I'll try to find some links for you and PM them to you
Date: 5/21/2008 5:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 64498    Wow she is very pretty. I would say that books are the best to start with that show how to use chords and have pictures you may think that they are elementary but I think They will be the best to start with. Any books by Mel Bay are good because they show pictures and explain things You can get his books either at your local music store or if you google in his name I am sure it will direct you on where to get the books I know when I first started playing he had books listed by levels so start with #1 and go from there! Good Luck PM if you need anything else GOOD LUCK!
Date: 5/21/2008 8:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 61933    My boyfriend is actually teaching me how to play right now. My father plays, my uncles, etc I grew up around it Learning isn't that hard really its just a pain on your fingers till they get tough enough to handle it. Don't get rid of the guitar You could probably find DVD's or something to teach you and then you could rewind and go at your own pace. Good Luck <<hugs>>
Date: 5/21/2008 8:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 56293    The only guitar I know how to use is on Guitar Hero!!

Date: 5/21/2008 9:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 62100    Sorry..not I, my brother inherited all of the musical ability from my dad..Kels has an electric guitar that she started teaching herself a little and my bro helped her a bit but she hasn't touched it in forever..
Date: 5/21/2008 9:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 64414    That is a beautiful guitar!!! Spirit Child will probably have some pointers for ya!
Date: 5/21/2008 9:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 64365    I used to have all kinds of books for guitar. I have no idea where they are anymore. Probably got destroyed in storage with all of my other things that got destroyed. The music stores will have books with pics of finger positions, etc. for the chords. That would be your best bet.
