What is Femininity?

I think that somewhere between June Cleaver, Marylin Monroe, and Lucy Ricardo, the Sexual Revolution and the Women's Liberation Movement, and Britney, Paris, Cristina, JLo, and Lindsey Lohan, I've gotten confused as to what a woman really is!

I refuse to accept that I'm expected to be like June Cleaver, but neither do I accept that I am the newer ideas of feminity as sex goddesses (reality hits about 40 and after children and everything goes south).

I know that feminity is more about an attitude and I think that there are certain underlying qualities that are inherently female that continue on despite the cultural idea of feminity (pious wife, virginal homemaker, allknowing homemaker, liberated lioness, the allknowing homemaker with great abs that juggles an 9-5 job, family, soccer practice and boy scouts and still manages to keep her house clean). M

aybe its just that I'm still young and don't have a family or home of my own, but I'm not any of these women! I have alot of qualities that are usually masculine (atleast ones that I asign the title "masculine"). I'm a strong about what I believe and refuse to backdown, regardless of who I'm debating. I have no problem speaking my mind. I can take care of myself, in fact I'm more comfortable single than in a relationship. I want someone who is my equal, not someone who I have to take care of or who has to take care of me.

At the same instance, I want a family after I've accomplished all of my goals. I want to be a stay at home mother and love my babies like crazy!! When I am in love, I tend to be very affectionate and warm. I want to be around my boyfriend all the time. These are qualities that I view as feminine. In my mind, I think that I have more masculine qualities then feminine...

There might be something that I'm missing or don't understand. Does anyone have any insight about this? What is feminine? What is masculine? Is there really such a thing?

I know that feminity is more than a June Cleaver lifestyle, but its also more than a three piece chicken dinner (if you don't get that let me know!). I'm just me, and maybe thats what its all about, just being you.

Date: 3/19/2008 12:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 21867    IMO - Feminine and Masculine is something that is more *felt* than seen. It isn't and external thing a such...it isn't the clothes you wear, the job you have, the role you play, the language you use, the car you drive, the house you live in, the music you listen to, movies you watch, books you read. It is how you are within yourself. It's from the external concept of self that any external expression comes. As such - any one of us can be feminine, any one of us can be masculine...and that can also be regardless of gender. Femininity and Masculinity are both states of mind and being rather than body. Just my opinion anyway...

Date: 3/20/2008 3:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 16721    I think Feminity is in the inner softness of women that men will always lack and the prettiness of the spirit that clearly shows the oposite sex.it is that different type of safeness that only can be found ther. All men are seeking it sooner or later.
Date: 3/20/2008 6:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 51393    Lets see,as a woman i have something that i call"feminine" side.Like lately thinking of trading my Volkwagon for a Mercedez Benz.Pearl color everything so smooth and advance.Just thinking about it i don't know if i truly want to.My 2006 Volkwagon is already paid off.I use to put makeup on before i leave home. That has stopped makeup is destroying my skin.To bad thoe i have so much of them.My dining room is decorated with a feminine touch.Pearl color with huge angels stand. The rest of the house has been taken over by my husband and kids.To manly like style lol.Feminine is all about style with soft touch....Thank you for the post...Much love and God Bless....
