I just remembered why I decided not to go into Journalism.

One: When a newsreporter showed a student a picture of the shooter with all his guns, and asked her how she felt about it.

Two: When they actally showed the pictures he sent to nbc news, and the video he made. ( if people dont want any more of this to happen DONT CATER TO THE PREP and GIVE Hime the atention HE wanted)

Date: 4/19/2007 7:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 8243    I have not seen anything outrageous, it's just the simple fact it happened. That outrages me!
Date: 4/19/2007 7:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 2030    It's all to the point of over saturation. The repeated, How do you feel? questions being the worst. All they want is a reaction or a sound bite or better yet some tears. How do you feel? Heck I don't even know how I feel and I'm not connected to anyone who died. I just hate the media at times and in particlar hate all the people who are about to come out of the woodwork and capitalize politically on this.
Date: 4/19/2007 7:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 11240    Bad Taste is the more descriptive term, I believe. Anyway, I saw a father of a victim describe his murdered son as "the best son he had", when he still has another son alive. I think it is in extreme bad taste to put people on TV just for the purpose of filling up time 24 hours, with no thought to the consequensces. I just hope the other son doesn't turn out like the perpetrator . . . And, I probably shouldn't be perpetrating his comment, but it just struck me as AARGH. God Bless.
Date: 4/19/2007 7:57:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 43807    I agree with you all. I am also angry it happend------ again.
Date: 4/19/2007 8:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 27534    It is all getting so crazy.....seems like they are deifying the shooter with so much focus on who he was and everything.....the guy's a murderer....I would rather see the coverage about those who were good citizens ....doing it right....and are now gone.....
Date: 4/19/2007 8:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 27534    Now they are saying this guy role played a movie his demented mind....sheeesh.....get over it....he was a stone cold killer....time to put him in the ground and be done...lets support the victims families and friends.....
Date: 4/19/2007 8:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 2030    Agreed Wise, some people are just bad machines. Damaged beyond repair and that is just the way it is. We should watch and act.
Date: 4/19/2007 8:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 27534    BCAR as you know I compete every weekend....in all kinds of challenging scenarios......I can't imagine the helplessness of knowing you got a crazed killer shooting at you and killing people all around you....and you have to act....there were heros....lets deify them and quit birthing the recognition of every detail of this killer.
Date: 4/19/2007 8:17:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 43807    Too true wise. Maybe that's why you are called wise.
Date: 4/19/2007 8:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    I haven't watched the news since about 6 yesterday, I can't stomach it anymore. By even airing the video and pictures they are going to make him a cult hero to certain, slightly deranged people. In a strange way it reminded me of a you tube video. There is no "need to know" about his "manifesto" as they call it, whatever that means to the media. Don Imus gets fired for a rude comment that the public's ears are to tender for, yet we can show a mass killer over and over and over? NBC and the rest of the media gave him what he wanted.
Date: 4/19/2007 8:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 62998    I remember watching Waco when that went down back in 94? I think? well whenever that happened, I stopped watching the news.
Date: 4/19/2007 8:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 27534    I call myself Wise....because I'm smart enough to know that I am not smart enough yet to conquer myself......lots still to learn....I would hope faced with a situation as these victims were that my fight and flight instincts would kick in automatically......
Date: 4/19/2007 8:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 8243    I agree with you on that Wise. There were several heros that day, can anyone name one, without looking at a post on here about him?
Date: 4/19/2007 8:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 27534    I once read a Congressional Medal of Honor's comment when asked about "bravery"......the question I cannot quote with a high degree of accuracy.....the answer to the question was that bravery was hanging in there 5 minutes longer.....
Date: 4/19/2007 8:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 63194    I really dont see any reason why they shouldnt show the images. we have the right to know/see whatever we want (within reason) = I just think it's up to us whether we want to be subjected to it or not. Does it always make it right? no.
Date: 4/19/2007 8:29:00 AM  From Authorid: 27534    There were unarmed sheep dogs...(reference to my post).....who took action....some died .....all were answering the call to save themselves and others....heros all.........
Date: 4/19/2007 8:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 63194    So there is no reason for us to believe the media wont glorify any big story.
Date: 4/19/2007 8:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 63194    This is the big story for the week, Imus was the big story last week. I dont recall what station I was watching, but one of the guest said that if Imus had made that statement this week during all this chaos, He would still have a job because another big story was already in effect.
Date: 4/19/2007 8:31:00 AM  From Authorid: 53284    I think that the media should self censor with regard to the video and pictures that the deranged murderer sent them. To me, it verges on criminal to show those. It will just set some other mental case off so he can have his videos shown.
Date: 4/19/2007 8:31:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    Here's a funny one--yesterday on MSNBC when the story first broke about the documents--split screen--tiny box with Tucker Carlson, small box with former FBI profiler---taking up 3/4 of the screen is picture of cho holding two pistols--Tucker asks FBI agent if they should be showing those pictures---FBI agent says No--than they move on to talk about everything in the "manifesto"--showing the same picture taking up most the screen for about 5 minutes.
Date: 4/19/2007 8:35:00 AM  From Authorid: 27534    Here's a positive newsflash USMer's....all the shooting victims will be conferred degrees by VT Postumously......some recognition and celebration for their lives begins.... and forgive me guys....I am sick to death of rapes, robberies, killings and see the rise in correlation to drug convictions......
Date: 4/19/2007 8:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 27534    My bad.....posthumously......sheeeesh....fingers running faster than my mind.....my bad.
Date: 4/19/2007 8:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 62998    I haven't seen any of the coverage of the VT shootings. I refuse to watch, not that I can't stand violence, it's I refused to up their ratings and help out the networks in there money hungry based forums. (side note, I read the post wrong on my earlier answer heh, wasn't awake and didn't have my coffee yet)
Date: 4/19/2007 8:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 62998    Even when I have dinner, I sit with my back to the TV, just so I don't have to watch the news.
Date: 4/19/2007 9:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 8024    I was disgusted by nbc airing the killer with his guns .. the media has no morals ..if it were your friend or family member how would that make you feel ? almost all the attention is on the gunmen / what about the victims..why give the gunman any air time..? it make no sense @ all ...c
Date: 4/19/2007 9:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 63194    CC , as much as a agree with the material being released, I do agree that this should be about the victims, not the suspect.
Date: 4/19/2007 9:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    Just think if a news network had taken a principled stand and refused to show any of the pictures or video. They would have briefly lost ratings, but I think they would have gained over the long run.
Date: 4/19/2007 9:22:00 AM  From Authorid: 8243    Here is a website to go and look at. It's pretty cool. http://www.lansingcartoons.com. It's not anything bad, and has nothing to do with the suspect.
Date: 4/19/2007 9:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 8243    I am not asking that donations be given to this, I just wanted to show how everyone is coming together to show support, by using the college mascots.
Date: 4/19/2007 9:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 8243    Here is a website for a list of the victims that have been released so far. http://www.wdbj7.com/Global/story.asp?S=6379941.
Date: 4/19/2007 11:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 18155    I totally agree.
Date: 4/19/2007 11:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 18155    With all the visual overload by the news media, I can't pick out just a couple that are more outrageous than others.
Date: 4/19/2007 11:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 27534    Hey 32 Degree.......got a question for you from your professional background my friend. I know there was some articles (and I can't recite them so forgive) about the effects of the prevailance of violence in the month of April and contributing factors. Have you any recall or knowledge about this. Especially with the potential of copycat stuff with all the media.
Date: 4/19/2007 12:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 18155    I can't recall anything outstanding about the month of April and a correlation to violent behavior. Just to mention, a "full moon" and violent behavior, admissions to psychiatric hospitals, emergency rooms, etc. seems to have a direct relationship Wise. Wish I could be more helpful.
Date: 4/19/2007 12:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 27534    Moon has not been full this week.......There was something.......that went along with an article about the list of school shootings in the United States.......thanks for the try.
Date: 4/19/2007 1:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 64160    oookayyy O.O
Date: 4/19/2007 2:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 11240    Wise, is the "correlation" thought to be Adolf Hitler's birthday coming up on the 20th? God Bless.
Date: 4/19/2007 9:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 47218    A reporter asked one of shooter's roommates if he felt he could have done more to stop him-- like he needs to made to feel guilty about it! I thought that was a really cruddy question. That reporter should be bludgeouned.
Date: 4/21/2007 11:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 8243    All of the visuals of the killer are too much. It is everywhere, tv, magazines, news papers, more then we need to see. Enough is enough!!!!
