The Stallion

Reared on haunches he summons
with screams of intent and his flaring
nostrils pronounce his message that
is sent with nervous passionate eyes.

Hoofing the ground he notices all
eyes are upon him and he charges
the mares with thunderous mission
and arrives amongst them as they wait.

The nudging and biting tells them
the wait is over, now they must go.
Their direction is clear as he pushes
them to a frantic pace.

They stop abrubtly in the valley
away from the coastline where they had been.
He surveys the count and lets them graze
As he moves to higher ground.

Reared on his haunches he screams out
the alert that all is well.
His mane flys in the air and he
stands down but keeps aware of the surroundings.

The herd grazes in peace and knows
that he is there.
