Dealing with the public in retail for over twenty-five years, I have had the opportunity to meet tens of thousands of people. All the encounters were not cordial, at least from the customer's perspective.

Being a manager but more so the type person I am, I have learned to deal or defuse unplesant situations. At the end of the day two factors appear relevant: 1. Listen with interest ( they may have a point ) 2. Acknowledge their discomfort without telegraphing ( lip service)

After all these experiences, I have found that I am able to decern what if any impact negative situations take root in my mind. Outside the work place, I suppose I listen much more to people than talk and at least for me , the wealth of information is priceless. ......but that is just me. Thought I would share a bit of life's experiences with ya!..rm
